A Hollow is a spirit that becomes an evil incarnation of itself, formed when the soul loses its Chain of Fate the link to its physical body, and is overcome with negative emotions.

One plane of existence in the Bleach universe is the desert-like Hollow world called Heuco Mundo, where the Hollows thrive on "spirit energy" as a life force. The Hollows that appear in the human world have a strong desire to feed on living souls in an attempt to fill the void in their hearts left from losing their Chains of Fate, hence the reason they are said to attack first those they had loved most in life.Hollows generally do not have recollections of their lives as humans. Hollows also have varied character designs, though most are designed with monster-like appearances, skull-like masks, and a large hole somewhere through each of their bodies, usually where their hearts used to be.

There are two main duties of the Shinigami regarding souls: to perform a ritual known as a soul burial on normal souls before they become Hollows, and to purify the sins of Hollows so they once again become normal. When either of these duties are fulfilled, the soul goes to the Soul Society If a Hollow committed grave sins as a human, its destruction opens the Gates Of Hell where it is dragged by an unknown being to Hell as its punishment.

There are also special case Hollows like Menos and Arrancars, who gain access to unique skills and abilities, fueled by the souls they have consumed. The most common ability is Cero, a high-powered energy blast that is fired from some part of the body, such as the mouth or hand.

Hollow types :

The Demi-Hollow is an Jukaburei that is evolving into a Hollow. It usually takes a while to a Demi-Hollow to evolve into a Hollow yet it can be speed up if the hole in their chest is forcefully opened.

The Menos Some Hollows have an unusually strong thirst for souls, leading them to consume other Hollows and evolve into a stronger state of being. Within the Menos are three levels of evolution, each with superior strength, speed, and intelligence compared to its previous form.

If one of the Hollow consciousnesses that now make up the Gillian surfaces above the others, that identity dominates the entirety, and through eating other Gillians, eventually evolves to the next level, Adjuchas, Adjuchas can vary radically in appearance anywhere from bulky humanoids to having animal-like appearances. Granted with superior intelligence, Adjuchas give orders to Gillians, and are better able to do combat with Soul Reapers. Adjuchas must continue to eat Hollows to maintain their individuality or they risk regressing to their original Gillian form, There are some cases where Adjuchas will halt regression, since if a part of their bodies are eaten they shall stop evolving completely.

Vasto Lorde:

The very few Adjuchas that transcend their limits become Vasto Lorde class. They are the closest Hollows in size to humans and have power greater than that of a captain-class Soul Reaper.

Hollow forms:

Fishbone D: A humanoid Hollow with several Fish-like features. -It attacked the Kurosaki Clinic and was the first Hollow that Ichigo fought when he became a Shinigami. Fishbone D was purified by Ichigo Kurosaki-

Hexapodus: A weak Spider-like human that tried to eat a Plus Child before it was purified by Ichigo Kurosaki.

Acidwire : An acid-spitting Hollow with a Snake's tail in place of legs that was created from Sora Inoue. He regained his personality upon his mask being shattered and purified himself with Ichigo's ZanpakutÅ.

Shrieker : A Frog-like Hollow with retractable bat wings on his arms, created from the soul of a serial killer who attacked Yasutora Sado after he had obtained the soul of a parakeet that was possessed by the soul of YÅ«ichi Shibata, a child he killed in life. Upon being killed by Ichigo Kurosaki, Shrieker is dragged into Hell for the sins he committed when he was still alive. However, having become an Unforgiven from his time in Hell, Shrieker later returned to the Land of the Living to terrorize it before Rukia and Renji send him back.

Bulbous G : An oversized melee-type Hollow with a mask that resembles a Chinese Guardian Lion. He is destroyed by Yasutora Sado.

Numb Chandelier: A female octopus-like Hollow that dislikes fighting and prefers to float around. She can launch seed-like missiles in battle which she uses to control any humans that are hit by them. She is destroyed by Orihime Inoue.

Metastacia: One of the unusual Hollows that were created by Aizen during his days in the Soul Society, Metastacia has the power to transfer his being into a Soul Reaper's body and completely assimilate the victim while altering the body into his previous one. He also can destroy the ZanpakutÅ of anyone who grabs the tentacles on his back. Sent by Aizen to consume Soul Reapers, Metastacia entered the body of Kaien Shiba went tried to avenge his wife Miyako whom the monster assimilated earlier. With Kaien holding him back, Metastacia is killed when Rukia was forced to impale her mentor. Though thought to have died, with Kaien believed to be at peace, Metastacia is taken to Hueco Mundo where he is devoured by Aaroniero Arruruerie.

Hooleer: An enormous Hollow with a single eye and nails made of Gillian masks. He is first seen using his ability to get SÅsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Kaname TÅsen out of the Soul Society. Hooleer later appeared with Wonderweiss Margela when he arrived at the Fake Karakura Town to free Aizen, Tier Harribel, and Barragan Luisenbairn. After the Visored killed all the Gillians that were spawned from Hooler, Mashiro Kuna manages to use her "Mashiro Kick" on Hooleer. Gin commented after that on how easily she took out Hooleer even though it was Wonderweiss's favorite.

An eel-like Hollow who is among the various Hollows that reside within Dondochakka Bilstin, also serving as a mode of transportation throughout the deserts of Hueco Mundo.

Runuganga: A giant Hollow made of sand whose head is shaped like a sand castle. Seeing as Runuganga is weak against water and ice, he was defeated by Rukia Kuchiki.

Guardian of the Forest of Menos: Adjuchas-class Hollow who resides in the Forest of Menos. He resides over the Hollows that live in the Forest of Hollows. The Guardian of the Forest of Menos was destroyed by the combined attacks of Rukia Kuchiki and Ashido KanÅ.

Zonzain: A very large sunflower/worm Hollow. He was destroyed by Kon in Ichigo Kurosaki's body.

A giant Hollow that is made of sand. He attacked Renji Abarai and Yasutora Sado in Los Noches. He was destroyed by Renji Abarai who fired his Hikotsu Taiho attack at Battikaroa's head.

Gagamel: An unseen Hollow that was one of Barragan Luisenbairn's subordinates. When SÅsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Kaname TÅsen outside of Barragan's palace at Los Noches, the effects of Gagamel's death was detected by Barragan's subjects as it was revealed that Kaname Tosen had killed Gagamel.

White: One of the unusual Hollows that were created by Aizen during his days in the Soul Society, White (ホワイト Howaito?) was designed after a Soul Reaper and able to cause those bitten to undergo Hollowification. Sent to Naruki City, White battles Captain Isshin Shiba and overwhelmed the Soul Reaper until the Quincy Masaki Kurosaki intervened. Though mortally wounded by Misaki before self-destructing, White managed to bite her with Isshin managing to suppress her inner Hollow for the rest of her life.

Grand Fisher: is a Hollow that had evaded Shinigami for 54 years and is responsible for the death of Ichigo's mother, Masaki Kurosaki. He uses a lure that grows from the top of his head to capture souls.

The Demi-Hollow: first appeared as a jibakurei that was chained to an abandoned Karakura Town hospital.Don Kanoji accidentally transforms him into a Hollow by removing his Chain Of Fate. His Hollow form resembles a frog, and it has the ability to spit a sticky liquid. Ichigo Kurosaki managed to kill the Hollow and clean up Don Kanonji's mistake.

Ayon is a Chimera-like being created by the Quimera Parca ability, made from Apacci, Mila Rose and Sung-sun's left arms. Ayon has the intelligence of an animal, solely acting on instinct to kill any threat to his creators. He has tremendous strength and speed, which he demonstrated by completely overpowering Quilge Opei's Quincy: Vollstandig form.

The Plus of a boy named Yosuke ended up turning into a Hollow before being purified by Toshiro Hitsugaya.

Michel is a Hollow that disguised himself as a nice and friendly Human being. He manipulated everyone in Karakura Town by hypnotizing them. He is killed by Kon's Karakura-Raizer Beam.

Hollow Ranks:

An Arrancar is a human-like Hollow with its Hollow mask almost completely removed. Arrancars have the powers of a Shinigami, including a weapon similar to a ZanpakutÅ, as well as strength, speed, and intelligence beyond the level of normal Hollows. In addition to these improvements, Arrancars also have hierro skin, hard enough to defend against swords to an extent. Arrancars use a technique known as sonido sonÄ«do, to travel at extremely high speeds across a short distance. Stronger Arrancars have been shown to possess relatively harder hierro or faster sonido among other abilities, either unique or based on common techniques, such as the several variants of the Cero technique.

Like Soul Reapers, all Arrancars possess a ZanpakutÅ. Unlike a Soul Reaper's, however, whose ZanpakutÅ is a manifestation of its owner's soul, an Arrancar's ZanpakutÅ is a manifestation of its former self. With occasional exceptions an Arrancar's ZanpakutÅ resembles a regular sword in its "sealed state." When "released" through a process called Resurrección the sword combines with and changes the appearance of the Arrancar. In most cases of Resurrección part of the Arrancar's original Hollow form is restored and the Arrancar is granted greater strength and access to his or her original abilities. Arrancars are able to discard or remove certain elements of their released forms to better focus their powers. This results, however, in the Arrancars losing those attributes permanently, comparable to ripping off one's limb.

Espada: The Espadas are the ten strongest Arrancars in Sosuke Aizen's army and each of them represents an aspect of death. They are based at Las Noches, which was originally the Espada Barragan's domain, until Aizen took it over and remodeled it into his palace. The Espadas are ranked in order of their reiatsu density, not necessarily battle strength or prowess, and have their respective numbers tattooed somewhere on their bodies as proof of their status. While it was originally thought the Espadas were ranked from 1 to 10, with 1 the strongest and 10 the weakest, they are according to Yammyranked 0 through 9. Either way, one of the important rules Aizen set up was that Espadas of ranks 0 to 4 cannot use Resurreccións within the confines of Los Noches due to the immense spirit pressure. The Espadas are also allowed to personally choose any two-digit Arrancar, collectively known as the Números, as their direct subordinate, referred to as their Fracción, a cube-like item meant to seal away any one Fracción as a punishment, and could possibly be held forever, but stronger Arrancars are able to escape from the Caja de Negación's subspace.

Like all spiritually aware Humans, Fullbringers can sense the Reiryoku of other spiritual beings, such as Hollows, Shinigami, and other Fullbringers.

However, they differ in that they each have a parent who survived a Hollow attack before they were born. As a result, traces of the Hollows’ power remained in their mothers’ bodies, which were then passed onto them at the moment of their birth. Consequentially, their powers more closely resemble a Hollow’s than those of a Shinigami.

Their ability, called Fullbring, enables them to manipulate the souls contained within matter. Everything, even rudimentary objects such as lampposts and chairs possess a soul, however small. By using their power to “pull†on this soul, Fullbringers can manipulate the object’s movement or even alter its physical characteristics. For example, Fullbringers could have a beverage assist them in drinking it by pulling on its soul, drawing it into their mouth. Likewise, by pulling on the soul of water, Fullbringers can walk across its surface without falling through. Many more feats are possible, making the technique highly versatile. Unlike other spiritual beings, Fullbringers use their power with their physical bodies. Because of this, they must train extensively to build up their stamina so they can use it properly.

While all Fullbringers are born with this power, the age at which they come to realize it varies. When Fullbringers die, all traces of their abilities disappear.

Fullbringer Applications:

High-Speed Movement: Fullbringers can induce states of high-speed movement through Fullbring. Such movements are accompanied by the flickering of a green luminescence called Bringer Light lit. which is the preliminary for each high-speed movement. This speed is achieved through a variety of different uses of Fullbring. By pulling on the soul of the ground beneath their feet, Fullbringers can increase its elasticity, greatly enhancing their jumping ability as a result. In addition, by Fullbringing the air around them, they can accelerate their movements. Doing so can consequentially strengthen the force of their blows. The ability to use this technique signifies that one is beginning to master Fullbring

Object Affinity: By developing an affinity for a particular object, a Fullbringer can alter its form, granting powers that vary greatly among individuals. This affinity can be defined by one’s love for the object in question, or simply by an overall fondness for it.As such, this power is usually awakened through a strong emotion associated with the object, such as pride. Using this affinity, Fullbringers pull out the object’s soul and boost it with their own, transforming it in the process. For example, Kugo Ginjo can change the saltire pendant on his necklace into a large claymore. While Fullbringers typically have an affinity with one such object, it is possible to have many. While all Fullbrings are unique, they can be defined by different types. For example, Fullbrings that shroud their users with their power are called Clad-Type Fullbrings.

Once a Fullbringer has fully realized this power, its abilities cannot and do not change through growth. However, Fullbringers must progress to a certain level before they can use their unique abilities to their fullest. As such, a Fullbring’s various developmental stages can look radically different from its final form, and can thus be considered “incomplete. When the Fullbring’s potential is fully realized and it progresses to its final form, it releases a violent burst of energy that can potentially damage its user’s body. Because of this, another Fullbringer is typically required to oversee the process, and to prevent the recently completed Fullbring from injuring its user by suppressing the explosion. In addition, a Fullbring’s growth can be promoted by exposure to the atmosphere of Hueco Mundo, as a result of its Hollow nature.

A Fullbring’s unique power largely depends on the object that is used as a focus. In addition to souls, material objects also possess memories. As its holder experiences various events, the object experiences them as well; the memories are engraved onto its soul each time it is touched. Because of this, Fullbringers who had a considerable amount of battle experience prior to awakening their power have stronger Fullbrings

Power Transference: Fullbring is a product of Hollow power, meaning that it is essentially the opposite of its Human wielders. Because of this, it is possible for Fullbringers to transfer their abilities to individuals whom possess the powers of both Shinigami and Humans – namely Substitute Shinigami. By doing so, Fullbringers can rid themselves of their power, effectively becoming ordinary Humans. In addition to Substitute Shinigami, Fullbringers can trade and share their abilities amongst themselves. When doing so, they can establish certain boundaries as to how their powers can affect one another, posing voluntary limitations. Finally, it is also possible for a Fullbringer to steal the Fullbring of another individual, allowing it to be used to one’s own benefit.

Quincy are spiritually aware Humans able to absorb and manipulate Reishi into spiritual weapons.

  • Reishi Absorbtion: Although Shinigami and Quincy both use Reiryoku when fighting, they both have a completely opposite fighting style. Shinigami use the spiritual power created from their soul in conjunction with a Zanpaktou to fight against the Hollows. It can be said they fight using a power from within. On the contrary, a Quincy uses the Reishi in the atmosphere, and combines it with his/her Reiryoku to create weapons. They fight using a power from outside. They have an easier time collecting this energy in environments with higher concentrations of Reishi such as in Soul Society or Heuco Mundo. To a sufficiently powerful Quincy, there is no difference between Reishi and Reiryoku as a source of power.

  • Spirit Weapon: The weapon that Quincy create by gathering the Reishi in the air. The only limit to a Quincy's ability to create and fire arrows is their own stamina and ability to absorb ambient Reishi.

Spiritual Awareness:

As a spiritual being, the Quincy can sense Hollows and other spiritual beings at a significant distance, and tell in what direction they are in. Quincy have an acute perception of Reiatsu.

Gemischt and Echt Quincy:

At some point within their history, the Quincy began to distinguish themselves based upon an individual's ancestry and adopted the practice of true-breeding. Those who were descended from a long line of only Quincy and so, were thought to have a pure heritage, came to be known as Echt Quincy, while all others were instead referred to as Gemischt, In order to preserve their pure lineage, many families conducted arranged marriages between their own children and only those belonging to other pure families.

The final point of contrast between the Quincy and Shinigami is their respective choice of uniform. While the Shinigami wear traditional, black, flowing hakama, the Quincy wear white, form-fitting, high-collared tunics. These bear some resemblance both to Mandarin Chinese dress and to cassocks of Catholic priests. This gives the Quincy a distinctly "foreign" or "Western" style compared to the Shinigami. One peculiar recurring motif of Quincy is that of a Cross, which appears frequently on their uniforms and artifacts. The cross is not the same shape among all Quincy. There is also a six-pointed cross that appears on the back of Uryū's Quincy tunic. The differences between Quincy and Shinigami in costume and iconography are minor compared to the differences in weaponry and ideology.

The Quincy were created by Yhwach. He is their King and his blood flows in every Quincy. The Quincy were scattered all over the world at one time. They were relatives of magic hunters who specialized in the war against Hollows.

Since the origin of the Quincy, many years passed within Soul Society trying to appeal to the Quincy that the handling of Hollows should be left to the Shinigami. The Quincy refused to accept the situation. As time went on, the number of Quincy increased and the cycle of souls became more unstable, forcing the Shinigami to reluctantly wipe out the Quincy in order to maintain the balance of the world.

The Quincy line was closely monitored over the decades, as their numbers continued to dwindle. Later the Quincy advanced the idea that since they were already among the living and still more numerous at the time, they could act as "first responders" to Hollow attacks: protecting Humans until the less-numerous Shinigami could send a representative to finish the Hollow off. Embittered by the recent war, the Shinigami refused to participate, opting instead to allocate their limited resources to reacting to the most dangerous Hollows and current Hollow attacks. This caused great enmity towards Shinigami by Uryu Ishida, Ichigo's classmate and a Quincy, whose grandfather, the last advocate of the Quincy plan, had been slain by a team of Hollows before the Shinigami could arrive.

Danger to the balance:

Shinigami govern the souls between the Human World and Soul Society, which maintains a balance that if not kept would result in the mutual destruction of both worlds. All souls, including Hollows, are subject to the Shinigami governance of maintaining the balance. Quincy completely extinguish Hollows. Thus the souls that come to the Human World do not return to Soul Society and therefore the souls would increase only on the side of the Human World. Meaning, the Human World becomes heavy in souls causing Soul Society to spill over into it; mixing life and death. The ultimate result would be the end of the world

While they are trained to confront Hollows in order to defeat them just as Shinigami do, the biggest difference between the Quincy and Shinigami, since ancient times, is whether to kill or not to kill Hollows. The Shinigami purify Hollows with their ZanpakutÅ and send them to Soul Society, while the Quincy killed the Hollows. The idea can be seen as comparing justice and vengeance: "Hollows devour souls of Humans, so why must it be that those who harm and kill friends and relatives get sent peacefully to Soul Society?"

Quincy Legend:

Within Quincy legend, there is mention of a sealed king. According to the one legend, the seal would be broken and the king would regain his heart after 900 years. 90 years after, his intellect would return. And 9 years afterwards, his power would return. To regain his powers, the king would have to steal the powers of impure Quincy. This legend was proven true when Yhwach stole Masaki Kurosaki's and Kanae Katagiri's powers.

Quincy Combat;

  • Archery: It is the most used form of combat among the Quincy. Since they're still human, maintaining a distance from highly dangerous Hollows as well as launching numerous attacks on multiple opponents gives them a great advantage offensively and defensively.

  • GintÅ: A capsule-shaped tool used by Quincy to store their Reiryoku. It is an antiquated tool, but the use of it allows Quincy to perform certain techniques.

  • Hirenkyaku: An advanced Quincy moving technique. It allows for high- speed movements by riding on the flow of Reishi created below the user's feet.

  • Blut: A Quincy ability that gives one inhuman defensive and offensive capability. By making Reishi flow into their blood vessels they increase their attack and defense power drastically. Blut is significantly dangerous but it has one big flaw, the two forms of Blut for attack and defense work using two different Reishi systems, so they cannot be used at the same time.

Rare Quincy Techniques:

To go with their bow, the Quincy have a number of rare special techniques to give them an edge in combat:

  • RansÅtengai: This is a high-level technique that allows the user to control their body parts using strings of Reiryoku controlled by their brain, forming lines or strings out of countless Reishi. By using this technique, the user can control their body as one would a puppet, allowing them to move freely despite paralysis, broken limbs, or any other force that would impede normal movement. It was originally created to allow elderly Quincy to fight effectively, and is rare enough that Mayuri had never encountered a Quincy (out of the 2661 that he examined or studied) who could use it before UryÅ«. Mayuri stated it as "the most powerful technique for the Quincy," but he did not know of the Quincy: Letzt Stil, which means as far as Mayuri knew it was the strongest.

  • Quincy: Letzt Stil: is the last resort for a Quincy reached after removing the Sanrei Glove. It gives the user a tremendous amount of power, but at the price of loss of their powers upon its completion.

  • Quincy: Vollständig: The Quincy: Vollständig is a part of Quincy evolution and is the answer to the drawbacks of the outdated Quincy: Letzt Stil.[21] It is the easiest ability to understand, because their appearance and power changes evidently.

  • Kirchenlied: Sankt Zwinger: A powerful Quincy spell that creates an area of Reishi shaped with countless Quincy cross protruding from the ground, though with unseen effects, it was described as "the spell of maximum protection among the Quincy techniques of offense and defense" and stating that the "light of the lord" will hit, or "strike dead" anything that comes within its limits.

Quincy Items:

The Quincy possess numerous artifacts and equipment which help them in different ways.

Quincy Cross: A cross in the shape of a Quincy Zeichen that only those who have inherited Quincy abilities and techniques are allowed to possessStandard equipment for any Quincy, the Quincy Cross acts as the focus for a Quincy bow. The cross need not necessarily be in a cross shape, as Ryūken's cross is a pentacle. Uryū's first Quincy Cross took the shape of a cross, but his recent one also takes the shape of a pentacle.

Sanrei Glove: This is a powerful Quincy artifact that can increase a Quincy's power exponentially, but requires a dangerous and exhausting type of resistance training by wearing it for a week while constantly firing spiritual arrows to master. The glove works by scattering the Reishi in the surrounding area, making it much harder to form a working bow.

GintÅ: GintÅ are small liquid-filled capsules that store Reiryoku, and are used by the Quincy for spell casting in the same way that Shinigami use KidÅ. Like KidÅ, they are activated by calling out various commands.

Seele Schneider: The Seele Schneider is a thin sword that can be fired similarly to an arrow. It's much longer than a standard arrow and functions something like a chainsaw: the Reishi of its blade vibrate at ultra-high frequencies, loosening the molecular bonds between any spirit matter it cuts so that the Quincy user may easily absorb the freed spirit particles. Uryū also stated that using it increased his spiritual power. The Seele Schneiders Uryū uses are stolen from a secret storage room under Karakura hospital.

Quincy Bangle: The Quincy Bangle is an artifact designed to mimic a Quincy's natural powers. It works by drawing in Reishi from the environment, much like a Quincy does regularly. It can only be used properly by those who are already adept at forming and directing Reishi.

Hollow Bait: This item is a small, coin-shaped disk that attracts Hollows when crushed. When used by Uryū, the bait, in combination with Ichigo's powerful Reiatsu, was able to draw a Gillian-class Menos out of Hueco Mundo.

Soul-synthesized silver: Soul-synthesized silver was used by Ryūken Ishida to construct the hidden chamber in which Uryū trains.

Soul-synthesized glass: Like soul-synthesized silver, soul-synthesized glass was used to construct the hidden chamber in the Karakura Hospital.

Bounts are living beings similar to the Quincy, the difference being that they have a special component that is encompassed by a Human soul. Bounts have the unique ability to absorb Human souls, making them their own. It is as a result of this ability that Bounts at various times in Human history were labeled "Vampires". As the accidental creations of a Shinigami scientist, they were once affiliated with Soul Society. Currently, the Bounts in general are only a small tribe of beings from what they once were. Due to their circumstance, they are neither affiliated with Soul Society nor the living world; they are pariahs, accepted in neither dimension.

The natural abilities they possess due to their unique creation differentiate them from normal Humans and even Quincy. These abilities include:

Soul Absorption: Bounts normally try to absorb the Human's soul after the person dies and is trying to pass on. But they are also capable of taking the souls of those who are living, to do so kills the Human.

  • Immortality: By absorbing Human souls, a Bount can live forever. When they absorb Human souls, they gain eternal life.
  • Empowerment: By taking the souls of living Humans, Bounts gain unique abilities.

The Bounts were created by Ran'Tao as the accidental result of an explosion during an experiment by the predecessor of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. The experiment was an attempt to develop eternal life using the already slow-aging Shinigami souls as the base, but the materials used in the experiment crossed with the development of souls in the Real World and led to the creation of a new spiritually-active Human race, called the Bounts.

The Bount souls were scattered about the world, giving rise to a new race that never aged after reaching their twenties or thirties. They were generally treated as outcasts due to the fact that they did not age. The Shinigami scientist responsible for their creation, Ran'Tao, gathered most of the Bount into a small community in a secret cave structure, several centuries before the main storyline. It was her intent to improve the quality of life for the people whose suffering she felt responsible for.

However, the embarrassment of this accidental creation, as well as the fact that a tenth of Seireitei was destroyed in the resulting explosion and the possible threat they posed to the balance between the worlds, led the Central 46 to rule that the experiment and its failure were to be covered up, and the Bounts destroyed. Shinigami were dispatched to kill the Bount community, but a handful survived, including a young boy saved by Ran'Tao herself, to whom she gave a seal that would help unlock the Bounts' true power.

The Bounts who survived the massacre wandered like nomads and eventually fell prey to constant attacks by Hollows. It was during this time that the boy, Eugene Carrier, activated the seal's power and merged with his doll - the Bount equivalent to a Shinigami's ZanpakutÅ - and killed off the attacking Hollows. The survivors eventually found refuge in another cave and began devising a plan to return to Soul Society, which they saw as more of a home than the real world ever could be. Eugene, now an adult, was against this plan. He had witnessed the massacre and believed the only thing that would await the Bounts if they returned to Soul Society would be subservience or death. Regardless, the Bounts' leadership decided to gain access to Soul Society by means of the Quincys' power. The Quincy were unwilling to assist, and a battle ensued, in which the Quincy and Shinigami killed most of the surviving Bounts.

Further infuriated by this, Eugene took the last few surviving Bount, all of whom were of a similar mindset to him, and began plotting revenge on Soul Society. These Bounts managed to perfect the control of their dolls, and by the time of the main storyline, Eugene, now going by the alias, Jin Kariya, was ready for vengeance.

Unfortunately, Kariya's plan was doomed to fail, as most of the Bounts he assembled were either killed by the Shinigami and their allies or rebelled against him and he was forced to kill them. The only Bount that wasn't killed was GÅ Koga, who ironically ended up living with the Bount's creator, Ran'Tao.

Powers and Abilities:

The Bounts' inability to age is a product of how they survive: consuming Human, Shinigami, Hollows, and Quincy souls which potentially increases their abilities. This also seems to make them infertile, as only one Bount, Yoshino SÅma, had the ability to reproduce out of the entire species. Normally, Bounts consume Human souls that have already died.

Bount Seals: These seals are called HankyÅ HyuraizÄ. Jin Kariya was the only Bount who has shown most use of this technique. His first one was the birth of the bittos. The following Bount seals:

  • Zeige Dich, Noin Raven meaning Pursue the Plan, Noin Raven.

  • Zeige Dich!, German for Show yourself, is used by all the Bounts to summon their doll. It is similar to a Shikai command; the difference is that all Bounts have the same release command. A Shikai has only one dominant command, while a doll has many commands.

Space Manipulation: The Bounts are able to manipulate space after they have sucked a number of souls. Jin Kariya was said to have long had this ability, while GÅ Koga had recently gained the ability. The following Spacial Commands are:

  • Andere Welt anschliessende Port, tauch' dich sofort auf!, incorrect German meaning The portal which connects to another world, appear now!. This opens a Senkaimon.
  • Mache sogleich das Tor fuer unsere Bounto auf!, German phrase meaning Open at once the gate for our Bounts. This allows the Bount's souls to pass through the Senkaimon. In order for the portal to open faster, it needs a Quincy arrow to be shot through the portal.

Bounts, being created as variations on a Shinigami soul, have similar powers to Shinigami. The foremost of these powers is the Bount doll, a familiar equivalent to a Shinigami's ZanpakutÅ.Like a ZanpakutÅ, a doll is its creator's power given physical form. Also like a ZanpakutÅ, a doll's personality is much like its creator's, though the dolls seem to have more personality variation than the ZanpakutÅ spirits seen thus far.

The main difference between a doll and a ZanpakutÅ is how they operate. Unlike a ZanpakutÅ, whose personality is generally dormant except when the Shinigami wishes to speak to them, a doll's personality is always present. Dolls are self-sufficient when released, though they can easily be resealed. The Bounts' ability to control their doll is largely based on their individual power and relationship with the doll. Moreover, if either the doll or its Bount partner sustains severe damage in a battle, the Bount may lose control over his doll, depending on the amount of damage dealt. If a doll is injured, it will simply return itself to its sealed state. However, should its master be injured, the doll may go berserk and kill its master, which is what happened with Ugaki and Mabashi's dolls. A doll may also kill a Bount who is not powerful enough to contain it, as was the case with Cain. Bounts with a genuine bond with their dolls can transgress this (but only if their interaction goes well beyond that of between master and slave), however, as shown by Yoshino's doll's loyalty towards his master to the point where he refused to leave her side to fulfill her final wish: for her to be merged with him.

Like a ZanpakutÅ, dolls are generally sealed into an object and released as necessary. GÅ Koga's doll, for example, is sealed into a metal sphere, but his hidden doll is merged with him by his special abilities. The object varies greatly from person to person and is often an expression of the doll's abilities. In order to call upon a Bount's doll, the phrase "Zeige Dich" is said, which is a German phrase meaning "Show yourself."

Jin Kariya and Ugaki were also able to create a unique form of doll known as the Bitto,They are mosquito-like beings which drain the souls from humans and condense the energy into a purified liquid for the Bounts to drink. They even produce a useful vial in their sacs to store the elixir (which takes the form of a red, blood-like liquid). After the soul elixir has been ingested, the Bount who took it immediately experiences the effects, with veins popping from their skin. Kariya created the Bitto by sacrificing Yoshino SÅma, the only Bount capable of reproduction, in an elaborate ritual, producing a large swarm of them.

Shinigami are unearthly beings living in a world ruled by a different logic than the World of the Living. They possess high Reiryoku and a body of Reishi. They are invisible to those without spiritual powers.

When souls with exceptional spiritual energy train their bodies, they reach the level of Shinigami. The most talented of them become affiliated with various organizations like the Gotei 13 and the OnmitsukidÅ. Sometimes, a potential Shinigami is born among the residents of the Rukongai, and in some rare cases from Seireitei.

Shinigami receive salaries, like workers in the Human World and also earn bounties for defeating Hollows.

Shinigami have a number of supernatural abilities:

  • Longevity: Shinigami do not visibly age at the same rate as Humans and tend to maintain a youthful appearance for centuries. Shinigami can live for much longer than Humans, with some Shinigami, such as Retsu Unohana, being over 1,000 years old and GenryÅ«sai Shigekuni Yamamoto being at least 2,100 years old.

  • Enhanced Durability: While Shinigami can be injured and "die" like regular Humans, it takes considerably greater injuries to kill a Shinigami than it would to kill Humans. Decapitation is the only guaranteed method of killing a Shinigami.

  • Reiryoku: Shinigami naturally possess high levels of Spiritual Power, which varies greatly in magnitude with the strength of a Shinigami. The more power a Shinigami has, the sharper their movements will be. A consequence of having Spiritual Power is that unlike powerless spirits, Shinigami need to eat.
  • ZanpakutÅ: A Shinigami weapon, its shape is typically similar to a Japanese katana. Low ranking officers are issued an Asauchi sword, but high-ranking officers arm themselves with unique swords generated from their own souls. A ZanpakutÅ is a physical manifestation of this force concentrated into a blade. All Shinigami have a ZanpakutÅ, but not all of them carry one with them. Its shape differs depending on its owner.

Exiled Shinigami:There are some Shinigami who exist in exile, They will work with the Shinigami at times, but still exist in exile.

Most Shinigami appear like average Humans. There are, however, a few Shinigami who are less Human-like in appearance. For example, there are much greater variations in body-sizes between Shinigami than between Humans, with small childlike Shinigami such as the 109 cm tall Yachiru Kusajishi and giant Shinigami such as Sajin Komamura, who is 288 cm tall. Variations do not just occur in size but in overall appearance, too, the most notable example being Captain Komamura, who is an anthropomorphic wolf.

ShihakushÅ: The black kimono worn by Shinigami. It is customary to wear a white undergarment underneath. Some wear bright colored scarves with it or shorten the sleeves. They commonly carry their ZanpakutÅ, which is in most cases tied to their obi sash.

  • KonsÅ (魂葬, Soul Burial): the process by which a Shinigami sends wandering Plus' (souls) in the Human World and send them to their respective place. Either Soul Society if they are good in life, or to Hell if their life was full of evil acts (such as murders, theft, etc.). KonsÅ is performed by using the hilt of the Shinigami's ZanpakutÅ, tapping the soul on their forehead and transporting them to the afterlife.

  • Hollow Cleansing: When a Shinigami slays a Hollow (evil spirit) with their ZanpakutÅ, they cleanse their sins. Once this takes place, a Hollow will return to its former state as a Plus and is led into Soul Society. This is called sublimation. Souls that live in Soul Society are reborn again into the Human World. Not all Hollows are sent to the Soul Society. Since ZanpakutÅ are only capable of cleansing sins committed after becoming a Hollow, Hollows that committed serious crimes when they were still Human are sent to Hell when they are slain.

  • Soul Governance: Shinigami are responsible for governing the flow of spirits between the Human World and Soul Society. This is commonly carried out by balancing the total number of souls by moving and managing them in the Human world. All of the soul-related jobs are under their authority.

Shin'Åreijutsuin (Spiritual Arts Academy): An educational organization with a 2,000-year-old history, founded by GenryÅ«sai Shigekuni Yamamoto. It was once called the Shinigami Academy. It changed to Spiritual Arts Academy when it developed into an institute for the next generation of the KidÅ Corps and OnmitsukidÅ as well the Gotei 13. In the Rukongai, it is still referred to as the Shinigami Academy. The Shinigami Academy is one of two groups that is not under the jurisdiction of the Central 46 Chambers.

Zankensoki: Basic Shinigami fighting techniques. Zan refers to sword fighting techniques. Ken refers to unarmed fighting techniques. So refers to moving techniques. Ki refers to KidÅ.

  • Zanjutsu: Sword fighting techniques for the ZanpakutÅ. The most basic fighting technique.

  • Hakuda: An unarmed fighting technique that makes use of one's own body in a fight.

  • HohÅ: The name for all high-speed fighting movements based on the art of Shunpo.

  • KidÅ: Advanced spells that require strong spiritual power: HadÅ and BakudÅ.

Mission Aids:

To aid in their missions, particularly when said missions involve more than simply dispatching a Hollow, Shinigami have a number of unique items to assist them in their duties.

  • Gigai: The temporary bodies that Shinigami use in the World of the Living. They were created by the Shinigami Research and Development Institute.

  • JigokuchÅ: the butterflies that Shinigami use to lead them to the World of the Living. they are also used as messengers in the Soul Society.

  • Spiritual Limiter: All Shinigami captains and lieutenants have their spiritual energy reduced by about 80% when they enter the Human World by use of a spiritual limit, represented by a seal called the Gentei Reiin (é™å®šéœŠå°, "Soul-Limiting Symbol"), which resembles the symbol unique to their Division, in order not to cause unnecessarily high damage while there. In extreme cases, where their full power is needed, they can request a limit release. The command to release the seal is Gentei Kaijo (é™å®šè§£é™¤, "Limiter Release").

  • Denreishinki: A vital tool for any Shinigami stationed in the Real World, this variation on a cell phone functions both as a regular phone and as a communication line with the Soul Society. It receives information about the time and exact location of a Hollow's emergence via a Global Positioning System (GPS). A Shinigami's kills are also recorded in the phone and can be used as currency (according to the bounty placed on each Hollow).

  • Gokon TekkÅ: a glove which has a skull symbol on it, which can be used to force the soul out of a body. Kisuke Urahara also has a skull symbol on the end of his cane, which can be used in the same manner.

  • Artificial souls: as the name suggests, are souls designed by Shinigami scientists to separate a Shinigami's spirit from a Gigai, should they be inhabiting one, or to evict stubborn spirits from their corpses if necessary. It is commonly called Soul Candy, as the Shinigami Women's Association complained that the name "Artificial Soul" was not cute and had it changed.

  • Modified souls are artificial souls designed to enhance regular Human physiology, making them capable of battling Hollows equally. The Mod-Souls are condensed into tiny, candy-like orbs and placed into corpses to achieve their function as soldiers to combat Hollows. The Mod-Souls were exterminated after the experiment was halted due to ethical reasons, since they were intended to be used to reanimate Human corpses to use as weapons against the Hollows. But there are still a small amount left; namely Kon, Ririn, KurÅdo, and Noba.

  • Kikanshinki (記æ›ç¥žæ©Ÿ, "Account-Replacing Spirit Device"): a memory substitution device used on humans who have seen Shinigami or Hollows. Also called Kiokuchikan. When used, a bird's head pops from the top of the device and produces a puff of smoke. The Human it is used on is knocked unconscious and wakes up a while later with a new memory. However, the new memory that the Human acquires is random and often based on the limits of what they will believe. For example, Ichigo's family merely believed they slept through a truck crashing into their house when it was used on them. Conversely, Orihime Inoue, who has a much more active imagination, believed that her house was attacked by a yakuza gunman.

Substitute Shinigami:

A Substitute Shinigami (死神代行, shinigami daikou) is someone who became Shinigami by obtaining another Shinigami's power, or by going through a much harder and riskier process to transform him/herself into one. Obtaining another Shinigami's power is done by thrusting his/her ZanpakutŠinto the person's chest who wants to obtain the power. However, the percentage of success is low. In the case of success, the person normally obtains around half of the Shinigami's power, and only temporarily. The transferral of a Shinigami's powers to a Human is forbidden by the Soul Society

In the case the individual borrowing the power being a Human, several difficulties arise, illustrated by the example of Ichigo. In order to be able to fight as a Shinigami, he has to leave his body and get into soul state, which can only be by use of a Gokon TekkÅ or Soul Candy. In the former case, his body needs to be taken care of until he finishes his job and re-enters it.

If a Substitute Shinigami appears, Soul Society gives that Shinigami a special badge which they use to monitor and restrict the Substitute. However, the Substitute is told that it is a license which is given to Substitutes that prove beneficial to Soul Society to allow them to do their work and identify them as a Substitute. The badge alerts the user if Hollows are nearby via an alarm sound which can only be heard by the owner and the item itself is only visible to other spiritually aware beings. The Badge can also allow the soul to leave the body.

Kaycee searched through the books and eventually found one containing information on the Vandenreich. She grabbed the book and sat down at a quiet corner to read through it. Well, this is interesting...She whispered to herself and flipped through each page slowly.

Again, Kaycee explored the library in search of a book that explained the many kido combinations. If she knew which ones to combine, then she would have the upper hand in many battles that included the one too come. She searched and searched, but found nothing. I know it has to be here somewhere...She whispered to herself and sighed. It was nowhere to be seen. Could someone have already taken it?

As Kaycee began to search the books on the upper floor, she noticed one in particular. So that's where you were. Good, now to study up. She grabbed the book and leaned against the railing. Pages and pages were flipped through as she studied the kido spell combinations.

Kaycee jumped a little when she heard a voice downstairs. She turned around after closing the book and peered down to the first level. The voice belong to Alvito, who was looking at something. Hello, dear. She called down, in hopes of capturing his attention for a second. In all truth, she wanted to know what he was looking at.

Takes out some book about qunicys and then start to think how to beat them if they were to steal our bankais. "Hmm i guess me and the Captain are safe from them stealing our bankai as we have a hollow inside of us. Well now how to save the rest of the squads bankais." I said to myself while i then studied and studied on.

Kaycee smiled sweetly at Alvito and told him, I was looking for a book that explained some things on combining kido spells. I think I should ask you...She gestured to the blue crystal that he put in his pocket, about that. Heh heh, should I? I mean, it looks really important.
