    The Harrowing Recess

[1] Lady Tomoe could feel the faint return of her power as whatever impoverished attempt at poisoning her set on by the seated officer's measly smog wore of. The entire affair of it weighed scarcely in the grand scheme of things, but the one named San would receive her retaliation for his offense. [2] However, it seemed these wanderers were not done taunting Lady Tomoe as they spat in the face of her kindness and good will. She first felt it on Hizorashi and then on Oriru; the presence of Sanetoki. Tomoe's visible features suddenly twisted with rage as she drifted to Masato's right. "Unforgivable..." She hissed under her breath as all the objects and debris suspended in the air with her power began to fall into the mist below. The rubble could be heard rapidly shifting across the ground and all around the combatants. "Unforgivable...", Tomoe muttered again. "HOW DARE YOU!" As she shouted a wave of mist would slam into each of the enemies, attempting to assimilate them all once more. But they were each suddenly protected by a flashing pulse of energy that originated from the Talismans they all possessed. A light appeared in the transforming kanjis as a transparent cloak of Reiatsu surrounded them. The artificial counter to her mist possession. This only infuriated Tomoe further. "NOOOOOOOO!" She wailed. [3] She bit her bottom lip and scowled as her right claw was ensnared by Masato's transforming cyan overcoat. A temporary inconvenience she was forced to endure due to not having sufficient knowledge of the Fullbringer's capabilities. But, a third time, she would not be caught off guard. [4-5] "UNFORGIVABLE!" Tomoe screamed as Masato's left scarf-like tendril looped around her right side, moving at a speed very much within her means to effortlessly follow. Tomoe jerked her head to the right and glared at the curving cyan contraption, her silky black hair flared outwards as a pillar of mist rose in the the midst of the tendril and shot almost seven feet into the air. The pillar instantly twisted upon itself and writhed upwards nearly doubling in height with Masato's tendril likely twisted into it's form like a cyan ribbon untidily wrought around a standing needle of gray clay. The mist needle formation did not appear to be in motion but a keen eye would notice that the mist it was comprised of continued to rotate at an almost completely negligible pace. This ongoing rotation insured Masato's left appendage would remain tethered to the needle until he forcibly dislodged it. [6] Immediately afterwards a second Mist pillar erupted from where the seated officer appeared as Tomoe grunted loudly. It seemed that the Shinigami was able to avoid the attack as it sprung up in the wake of his jump. Extremely aggravating. But not entirely unfortunate. [7] While the Shinigami escaped, the same could not be said for his shadow minion or the sword he abandoned, both of which were twisted into the form of the wrought mist needle. The shadow beast maimed into oblivion and dispersed. [8] San's blade, simply struck and perhaps --though unlikely-- twisted out of form. In either case, Tomoe suspected that blade would no be moving any time soon. [9-10] Alas, for the act of temporarily disarming the Shinigami cretin, the two poison-laced attacks she sustained in the immediate aftermath were a hefty price to pay. There were a few things she noted in that very moment, the burn of the two cuts in her arm and the likelihood that she'd yet again been poisoned, but with slightly more intensity. "So, that's how it works?" Tomoe had just begun to move poised to land the finishing blow on the seated officer, when the voice of the Captain announced the name of a destructive Kido spell and startled her. Her gaze instinctively shot towards the Oriru and she realized her mistake almost instantly, as that moment of fear and hesitation was all it took for San's chains to circle her. [11] There was no avoiding the chains now, but Tomoe was far from being completely neutralized. [12-13] Just as San landed, an El Elogio mist pillar shot up from under his left foot. The pillar quickly writhed upon itself, set to potentially obliterate the Seated Officer's entire left foreleg from ankle-to-knee like a twisted wet towel. Moving to the left would place his arm and torso further into the pillar at the time of its deformation. [14-15] Moving to his right was also not advised, as Tomoe, frightened by the Captain's engagement, prematurely sprung her next attack. The Fullbringer was suddenly beset by a wave of debris that shot up out of the mist to his right, striking the cyan bindings and also Masato himself. The Fullbringer may or may not have been able to avoid being struck by the bones, stones, and chips of wood that bulleted towards him, but Tomoe's hand was freed. [16-17-18] She began to unravel the chains around her body as the first two of the Captain's orbs struck her. The first hit her from behind and jerked her head forwards as the second uppercut her chin. [19-20] "ENOUGH!" she shouted as she was hit with the third orb in her right shoulder while raising her arms to protect her face. There was a loud crack as the white bone plate of her shoulder was terribly dented inwards and fragmented shards of bone-like matter shot out from where the orb had momentarily burrowed itself a centimeter deep into her shoulder. The last orb ricocheted of her right forearms and Tomoe suddenly howled as she fell backwards into the mist. [21] Casting her Salir wraiths at the same time that the mist level suddenly rose to 3 feet above the ground. ----- [22-23] The mist also changed. It took on a sickly purple hue, similar to that of the seated officer's smog. Barbs that oozed with flowing acidic liquid began to crystallize on the surfaces of objects and out of thin air. The single sakura tree withered and decayed within seconds right before their eyes. "I will never forgive you!", her voice echoed angrily from the ocean of mist that now reached near chest level. "None of you are worthy of my salvation!" It was clear that she was darting throughout the farthest reaches of the Recess, hoping to avoid Connor and Ryūnosuke at all cost. Tomoe could feel her power dwindling, she was no longer able to defeat them in a direct confrontation. Tomoe could sense she was nearing the end of the line. [24-25] The most she could accomplish now was to keep her distant and attack them with El Elogio. If she was lucky, she could hold out until San's poison weakened them enough for her to finish them off. Three El Elogio pillars would shoot up from beneath the two Fullbringers at random as they attempted to pursue her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle Type: ------------------------ ------------------------ [ACTIONS] SWAP OUT GROUP B [Masato + San + Oriru] ATTACKING GROUP A [Connor + Ryūnosuke] ------ INFECT x1 Has Worn Off. + [-840 ND From Karma Talisman] [Remaining ND: 7,930] Lady Tomoe Enters Enraged State. The Harrowing Recess

[1-2] Terror struck Tomoe as her arm swipe attack was instantly deflected by Connor's right palm and sent a quake of pain shooting through her arm couple with another agonizing jolt of electricity as she gasped in horror. [3] Next came the left hand palm strike, which she felt and heard fracture the exoskeleton bone-like matter oh her right arm. [4] Tomoe screeched as Connor grabbed her arm and swung her into the mask-wearing teenager. Given How poorly her own physical prowess matched against theirs Tomoe was unable to resist the force of the throw as smacked right into Ryūnosuke. She collided with the boy as if he were the immovable face of a mountain. "YOU!", she spat venomously. [5] Then it was the teenagers turn. He started with a forwards shove against Tomoe, knocking her slightly back in the direction of Connor. The push was significantly less forceful than the boy's previously attacks, yet it still overwhelmed her long enough for him to bring down his second strike. [6] The bat slammed down squarely against the curve of her neck and shoulder in the same place that Connor had landed his spear not too long ago. There was a terrible snap sound emitted from under her skin as she felt the strike rattled every bone in her body. The force of the strike channeled through her entirely and finally escaped into the ground were it formed small craters around her feet. [7] Still, the teenager wasn't done. As he altered the grip on his bat handle, Tomoe was able to predict his next move, but with the weapon already in place and Connor still nearly, her options were limited. The most she could hope to do was mitigate the damage look enough to create some distance again. Tomoe raised her right hand and tried to push the bat away to her left, against the direction and force of the teenager's swing. "YOU BASTARDS!", she raged in her struggled. [8-9] The sudden increase of force changed everything. Suddenly it didn't just feel like the the cold metal of the boy's bat pushing against her but the entire world. She was like a pea being plucked across a table by the hand of a titan of Lovecraftian horror. The explosion of force shot her through the air with a booming crackle as the mist parted in her path. She prevented taking the full force of the attack directly thanks to advantageous positioning of her hand. Unfortunately, Tomoe had no defense against her collision with the ground. She hit the ground on her right side and folded upon herself, at one point it felt as if her left should was only inches from touching her right one. [10] Tomoe instantly rebounded into the air, her collision successfully transferred enough of the force into the ground for her to regain control. Tomoe corrected her haphazard spinning through the air into a series of controlled and graceful twirls, pooling the mist around her and producing more mist wraiths which all swarmed Connor and Ryūnosuke. This time by the hundreds. This time, the Fullbringer's would not be so lucky. If the wraiths didn't get the the towering serrated talons of mist the arched towards them like tidal waves would. Tomoe let out a horrifying wail the entire time she flew, abandoning any notion of confronting these two head-on again. ----- [11-12] She instead flew directly towards Masato, her elevation was low, still visible but only halfway above the mist which hid her entire right arm. She flew straight at Masato, while also being weary of San's Death Fog. Two Lamento Tajada blades suddenly shot up from her right and left as she entered within 10 feet of Masato. These two mist blades would not hit Masato in the natural course but the would intercept any movement of his tail appendage and also blow away any advance of San's lingering Death Fog (if it remained nearby). If not impeded on, the mist blades would simply shoot directly towards their intended target, San. Turning slightly inwards as they passed Masato, each would slice into either of San's shoulders. Should they land on be clashed they would fold around San and rebound back towards Masato, who would likely be preoccupied with Tomoe's follow up attack on the Fullbringer. [13-14-15] Tomoe started with a low arching forwards sweep of his clawed right arm, still beneath the mist the first swipe was aimed for Masato's left shin, but it would be proceeding with two more as Tomoe twirled upwards like a spinning top. The second would slash across Masato's belly and the last diagonally from his left shoulder to the right side of his forehead. [16-17-18] Tomoe would end her initial assault by soaring 10 feet to Masato's right and out the reach of his arms. She intended for her movement to distract him from the two Lamento Tajada mist blades that rose up at his right. From the origin point of her initial low arm sweep. Their targeted one of the combatants each- the first for Masato, the second to San, and the third to Oriru. Although, Masato was in the physical position to intercept the latter two should he move to his left and into their path. If not, they would fly to their intended targets and redirect if Clashed or if they hit. All Lemento Tajada addressed by Masato would redirect to the Captain. Those addressed by the Captain would redirect to San. Those addressed by the seated-officer would redirect to Masato. At the end of her attack Tomoe hovered through the air swaying from side to side. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle Type: ------------------------ ------------------------ [ACTIONS] SWAP OUT GROUP A [Connor + Ryūnosuke] ATTACKING GROUP B [Masato + San + Oriru] ------ [Don't Forget To Address the Actions from the last Turn.] LOSS Clash Against Connor's Right Palm Strike. The Harrowing Recess

[1] As she rose from the mist Tomoe flicked her right wrist and dispelled the lingering traces of smoke of shakiness caused by the black orb fired into her hand by the Shinigami Captain. Tomoe's caution of the captain was visibly apparent as she'd recognized that he was no less of a monster than the other two, Connor and the betrayer Ryūnosuke. In fact, if the Captain focused his full destructive power on her, combined with that of the other two, Tomoe had little faith that she could win. Fortunately for her, it seemed that, as she expected, the Captain remained true to his nature and would focus his full efforts, going as far as the place himself in the path of her attacks deliberately, in order to protect his starkly out-matched subordinate and the daring Fullbringer with the cyan coat. So long as she attacked them relentlessly, Oriru would be paralyzed in the defensive position. How much she truly gained from that arrangement had yet to be determined. Furthermore, she new Connor and Ryūnosuke would be right back on her in no time at all. Tomoe grinned ominously as the small blue man as his shadow minion scurried around her mist like a rodent, surely the Shinigami knew trying to launch such as attack against her was futile. Tomoe control the mist as an extension of herself, she felt everything within it, nothing escaped her sight went unnoticed. Her black lips formed a "o" in a sarcastic expression of surprise as she watched the seated-officer form a smoke cloud around his spinning blade. She cackled as she the Shinigami leaped backwards in retreat while also hurling his smog covered blade towards her. Tomoe would begin to take action against it by out-stretching her right arm for an attack of her own, when the sudden intervention of Masato occurred. While she could not speak to the strategic synergy of the pair, from Tomoe's point of view, there seemed to be a disconnect between them. She knew that much was to be expected considering all that had happened between the two factions. Despite unifying their efforts to challenge her, at the end of the day they were still strangers. They would never truly resonate in mind and spirit until they surrendered themselves to her will. Until then, such blunders as these were nothing more than expected. [2-3] The cyan-garbed Fullbringer did possess considerable speed that from what Tomoe had observed, exceeded the seated officer's by a noteworthy margin but nothing dramatic --HOWEVER-- to speak of the velocity at which San's thrown blade approached in comparison to Masato would be nothing but an insult to the Fullbringer. His high-speed advanced at the moment of San's backwards retreat placed him to Tomoe's left before San's blade and fog reached her, making his scythe weapon the more immediate threat. Tomoe swiftly glided backwards to her left as the shaft of Masato's scythe deflected San's sword after naturally obstructing it's trajectory while the blade itself arced almost harmlessly through the air. With the added boosted of speed provided by the collision of San's sword against the shaft of the scythe, Tomoe surely would have dodged it completely, but the hit propelled the blade just enough for it slice across the right curve of her mask halo. [4-5-6] The initial eruption of the smog upon the sword's contact with Masato's weapon was unavoidable, even barring Tomoe's rapid evasion. As was the tight wrapping of the Fullbringer's tail-like appendage around her right wrist. [7-8-9-10] There was also the matter of San's shadow minion, which now revealed itself, pouncing towards Tomoe from behind and now slightly to her right. It's distance and precise location mattered not, however, as her intentions of dealing with the measly insult to her capabilities never changed. "Pathetic!" she screeched with a forwards sweep of her out-stretched right arm. Immediate a Lamento Tajada mist blade rose from just an inch behind her and curved around her back and her right side. It clashed with the smog covered blade and the shadow critter was promptly torn apart as the Lemento Tajada was redirected towards San and the Death Fog itself was carried in the direction of Masato. [11-12] Raising her right arm would caused the mist around Tomoe to twist upwards around her and again formed a swarm of the blue-eyed wraiths that wailed as the circled her form. One formed a talon and forcibly snatched the cyan binding from Tomoe's wrist as the others dispersed towards Masato, San, and Oriru. Talons and snapping jaws lashed at the three as a released Tomoe howled in laughter and slipped back into the mist. While San and Masato would suffer no more than the annoyance of the wraiths, they would manage to break through the Captain's defenses and inflict what was to him a minor scratch of damage. ----- [13] Tomoe glided through the mist with the speed and grace of a shark on the hunt within it's natural territory. Though she was hidden from their view, Connor, Ryūnosuke and even Oriru would be able to track her movement through the slight movement in the ocean of mist. Tomoe was more than aware that she was most capable against these two from a distant. As she "swam" at the peak of her capabilities Tomoe suddenly felt a slight pinch of phantom pain followed by a very faint sense of weakness that she naturally attributed to the unknown effect of San's smog taking root. She imagined the effect negligible in the long term, but still she found it deeply annoying. The seat officer would receive the full brunt of her unabridged rage soon. But for now, from their current position she was now 30 meters away Connor and Ryūnosuke and neither remained impeded by her Salir wraiths. [14-15] The two Fullbringers would see Tomoe traveling from their left to their right. They would not however, see her sweep her right arm forwards through the mist. They would only see the barrage of mist arms that fired towards them and along the path of Tomoe's trajectory and followed their every move like homing missiles but originated from only 10 meters ahead of them. Each arm of mist fired in a low arc that peaked at around the chest-level of both young men. Each size of an average soccer ball. At the tip all twenty of the mist were two fiery blue eyes and a snapping jaw --not of mist, but multiple solid rows of human bones sharped to a point, varying from an inch to three inches in length. Should they be evaded or land on their targets the tendrils of mist would return back to the mass leaving only the bones behind. Deflecting them would simply cause them to return to the mist and follow the pair. Though they could track their moments, the wraiths would be able to strike again later at Tomoe's will. [16] Tomoe would then rise from the mist in an upwards counter-clockwise twirl lashing outwards with her right arm prepared to strike whichever of the Fullbringers if not both of them should they have closed in on her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle Type: ------------------------ ------------------------ [ACTIONS] SWAP OUT GROUP A [Connor + Ryūnosuke] ATTACKING GROUP B [Masato + San + Oriru] ------ LOSS Clash Against Oriru. The Harrowing Recess

[1] Tomoe shrieked in anger as the pair of Fullbringers made little work of her first Lamento Tajada mist strikes. To see them so casually dodge and deflect what was essentially her signature attack move greatly angered her. The Jibakurei, Lady Tomoe glided towards Connor as he led the charge, she noted that her former-champion had been slightly delayed by her second mist blade. [2] Tomoe, in response to Connor's spear stab, swiped her right arm upwards in front of her chest, this action would block the spear tip from piecing her while also diverting it's path to over her head. However, she had not anticipated the immense brute strength behind Connor's strike with severely dwarfed her own. She managed only to guide the strike away from her chest and towards her shoulder. Sparks ignited between her bone-forearm and the tip of Connor's spear as it scraped across and sliced across her left collar bone, tearing the shoulder of her kimono in the process. Her right arm was now in front of her chest as she did not possess the strength to fully divert the weapon. [3-4] Still, while this maneuver opened both of her targets up to her next attack, it also left her vulnerable to their follow-up attacks. All at once, Tomoe felt the surge of electricity shoot throughout her torso as sharp aching pain struck her left knee causing it to slightly buckle and impede her movement. [5] She barely had the chance to cry out in agony as Connors spears swept leftwards and the shaft of the spear smacked into the side of her neck and drove her to the side. [6] As Ryūnosuke's bat swung towards her head, Tomoe managed he leap backwards on her right foot and evaded the attack. Placing some distant between herself and the pair of monsters in front of her as she glided backwards. [7] Tomoe raised her arms and howled, again the mist was drawn towards her as she floated about seven feet into the air. The mist swirled around her in dozens of grey torrents with fiery blue pits for eyes. The torrents of mist then shot out towards the two fullbringers, emitting terrible wails as they transformed into jagged maws and talons that swept for the pair. Although they would manage to event and dodge most of them the mist wraiths would push occupy Connor and the Tengu-masked teenager long enough for Tomoe to focus on the others. ----- [8-9-10] She charged for San first, gliding towards him as she swiped her right hand in front of herself twice. From a distance of only 3 meters in front of him, two Lamento Tajada strikes sliced through the air towards the seated officer aimed for his chest. Should the attacks land or be clashed they would continue to fly onward towards Oriru. Tomoe followed up swiping her clawed right hand downwards at San, attempting to scratch from his face down to his chest. Next she floated upwards into the air once more before diving downwards and disappearing into the sea of mist. There was very little indication of her position within the mist, but those with enough perception would be able to make out her movement. [11] She leapt out barely seconds later from Masato's left and sliced at his back as she passed behind him. She spun in the air and disappeared into the mist back-first again. [12-13] Her laughter could be heard from within the mist as a massive clawed hand of mist fashioned after her own right hand swept in from the right of San. The palm of the mist had alone was fifteen feet wide and ten feet tall. As it attempted to swat into San and then Masato before the palm would turn downwards and crush them. After completing her last attack, Tomoe rose out of the mist and stood facing San with barely ten feet between them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle Type: ------------------------ ------------------------ [ACTIONS] SWAP OUT GROUP A [Connor + Ryūnosuke] ATTACKING GROUP B [Masato + San + Oriru] ------ LOSS Clash Against Ryūnosuke. Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!", cried the voice of Tomoe as she bore witness to the truce between the Fullbringer's and the Shinigami and lamented the loss of her champion Frenzied Wailer. She never suspected that the wanderers could successfully reverse her Baleful Mist possession, such a thing was unprecedented. Truthfully, it was by all accounts impossible for that phenomenon to occur without the meddling of the deceitful demon, Sanetoki. This was another one of his tricks, the wanderers just hadn't realized it yet. She'd found Sanetoki within the cemetery thanks to the boy's actions before. Sanetoki had finally been touched by the Baleful Mist which meant that by morning his spirit would also be assimilated. Imprisoned, and she could destroy him from within. Sanetoki would no longer be able to deceive and devour the innocent. That's why he needed her to die now, his own survival depended on it. However, rather than confront her himself, he tricked the survivors into doing his bidding for him. Even though her death would release the spirits of their friends and loved ones, unless they also killed Sanetoki none of them would survive. At least with Tomoe they lived on within the mist, together... with her. Alas, as evidenced by their rebellion and resistance against her thus far, Tomoe understood that there would be no swaying the hearts of the survivors now. She had no doubt that they would come for her, led by the very one she'd hoped would serve most loyally by her side. In a final act of desperation, Tomoe called out to the survivals in frustration as the Rotted Wailers swarmed them with even greater aggression than before. "You children understand nothing! I am not your enemy! Sanetoki, he is the real evil! That lying deceiver, he wants to use you like he's used me!" Tomoe let out another loud shriek. "I won't let you ruin everything! Only I know what's best for you... Don't you see? With me there is no pain, there is no suffering! If you won't accept me... I will force you... You will all join me, you will all be mine, FOREVER!" The Harrowing Recess

Continuation from Egriffiend's Night of Wailing FINAL ACT - Battle Of Egriffiend Battle Theme ----- The eerie creaks and rattlings of iron gates and the faint sickly crumbling of colliding stone could be heard as the survivors advanced towards Lady Tomoe's domain; breaking through her last defensive line of Rotten and Frenzied Wailers as they approached the largest spinning body of Baleful Mist seen yet. The Shinigami vortex would have been a small tornado in comparison to what was more akin to a mini-hurricane of mist raging within the cemetery. The mist swirled with such violent intensity that the survivors would be able to feel the pull of its counterclockwise rotation on their bodies as the wind-pressure attempted to drag them to the right. The whistles of the wind were more like the intimidating growls of a predatory beast. Observing the massive body of mist, one could see the gravestones, bricks, and segments of broken gates levitated and churned within the spiraling anomaly. The survivors would have no choice but to break through the mist if they wished to confront Lady Tomoe. Stepping into the mist would be like walking blind through a storm. The push of the mist was strongest here and anyone unfortunate enough to lose their footing or be knocked over by the rapidly spinning chunks of rubble and debris would be swept away into the mist. This would be the end of the line for Tenzaimon, Kazuko, Ito, and the other seated officers with the exception of San. Although, none of them knew it, upon entering the Baleful Mist, none of them would come out on the other side like the others. Lacking a strong enough Reiastu to fight off Tomoe's pull not even their talismans would be enough to protect them, they would be assimilated. Starting with Ito at the rear end of the group. He was hit, and carried of by a iron gate that hit him at such a great speed that he would have gone unnoticed if not for his fading scream heard faintly in the roar of the mist. The width of the mist barrier was roughly twenty feet. Twenty feet of struggle and enduring the losses to their numbers as the Shinigami were picked off one by one until only Captain Oriru and San Salvatore remained. The last Shinigami to disappear was Tenzaimon who shouted out to the Captain just as he gave him a final push forwards. "Don' worry 'bout us, Captain! Beat dat bitch's ass!" Eventually, arriving at the end of the mist barrier, the remaining survivors entered a massive arena (about the size of a Football stadium) unlike anywhere else in the the cemetery. The most notable difference was how the mist within this recess barely rose above their shins. It was also ominously silent within the recess. Calmly floating though the air were gravestones, debris, clumps of soil and grass, and thousands of pink flower pedals. Empty caskets were levitated from the ground and scattered across the recess like canoes in a lake of mist. The mist itself rippled outwards from a single point in the center of the recess. At the center of the recess was Lady Tomoe, a tall slender woman of long flowing black hair and pale grey skin. She was dressed in a simple white kimono. A Chain of Fate could clearly be seen protruding from a black pit in the center of her chest and extended downwards; coiled around the gravestone upon which she currently stood. Covering the top half of her head was what looked like a haloed crown of bone. Her right arm also appeared to be fully transformed into an exoskeleton appendage of white bone. A single sakura tree could be seen a few feet to the left of Tomoe. Tomoe held out her arms as she faced the survivors. Suddenly, the ripple of the mist reversed and flowed back towards her as she let out a shrieking wail. The mist around her flowed upwards around her legs. "Come children... Come be mine!" ------ Connor and Ryūnosuke, the first two to enter Tomoe's harrowing recess would also be the first victims of her fury. [1] Tomoe twirled to her left and performed a downwards slash with her hollowfied right arm. In the same moment, both the Fullbringers would see razor shape blades of mist jut upwards from just two meters in front of them. The blades of mist would rise for the ground like shark fins and slice towards the middle of their bodies reaching a maximum height of 10 feet. [2] Completing her first twirl, Tomoe instantly transitioned into a second spin, this time with a horizontal swipe of her arm as she also glided a few feet forwards through the air. Again, blades of mist shot upwards towards the two Fullbringers, however these would originate just a meter from both their right-sides, 10 feet in width. Aimed for their hips. [3] Should the Fullbringer farthest to the left be hit with or clash with their horizontal mist blade, it would lose form momentarily, fold around them and reform as it continued to slice towards the Fullbringer to the right. Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

Chance of Encounter: Rotted Wailers/Frenzied Wailers Incoming ------ Kiri chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck, unsure of how to respond to Masato's sarcastic remark. Though, he did eventually smile, seemingly pleased that Masato himself was rather calm, all things considered, and also had the benefit of being much stronger than he was. Kiri listened silently as Masato stated his questions and maintained eye contact and occasionally nodded to inform the Fullbringer that he was following along. The young man appeared particularly shocked by the revelation that someone had tampered with cemetery records and that Masato and his friends (along with the Shinigami) suspected a cemetery employee. Kiri frowned, visibly conflicted, as he turned around and looked at Haruto before facing Masato again. "I'd love to help you, Hizorashi-san, but I think you have the wrong idea. There are only two cemetery employees left here, Haruto-san and-" Kiri, leaned sideways and nodded his head in the direction of one of the whispering men as he was being approached by Captain Oriru. "that guy. He hasn't said a coherent word, let alone moved at all since this all started. I doubt you'll get anything useful out of him." Kiri went silent for a moment and lowered his eyes. "And Haruto-san," the young man shook his head and faced the Fullbringer confidently, "Haruto-san would never do such a thing. Granted I haven't known him for long, but he's not the kind of person that would do that sort of thing. Haruto-san keeps the records, he wouldn't tamper with them." Kiri paused before answering the second part of the question, there was a flicker of doubt in his eyes as he faced Masato. The young man likely sensed his next words ran possibly in contradiction to the statement he'd just made. "The o-fuda?" Kiri sighed. "I know about them from what Haruto told me. They were already up when I arrived, but I've personally seen that they work. Those guys over there-" Kiri nodded towards the delinquents who'd all been stirred back awake by Connor and had now resumed their tomfoolery rather than approach the Shinigami, but now they were much more weary of Connor's presence. "They tried to pull one of their zombiefied friends onto the shrine grounds and he just collapsed motionless, kinda like the girl being carried by your friend." Kiri quickly shuffled off to the praying group and knelled down beside them just as Connor had approached them, Kiri whispered to an elderly woman from the group and smiled, she smiled back and gave Kiri a handful of the talismans and then she personally offered one to Connor. Kiri returned to Masato and handed him one of the talismans, "Here, Hizorashi-san. You can inspect it yourself. I personally don't know who made them, but they were being distributed by everyone in the praying group. They're good people, I don't think any of them mean any harm." Kiri stated aloud, particularly towards Connor as he was worried the foreigner might approach the group aggressively. During this time Ryūnosuke was slowly stepping towards the center of the room, he'd already broken the seal of the envelope and was beginning to unfold the letter. Connor would have heard Kiri ask the woman for some of the o-fuda to hand out but in that moment he would also notice another very important detail, as his own question was being answered by a member of the praying group and he was gifted a talisman by an older woman who grabbed his wrist and firmly placed it in his palm. "Take it, young one, it'll ward off harm.", she said charmingly as another man at the tail of the group addressed him, "The o-fuda at the entrance was there when we arrived, it's different from the ones we have. That one protects the shrine grounds, these more personal." The praying group were huddled around a single framed o-fuda that was a larger and more ancient copy of the smaller and newer talismans currently in circulation. Even if he was as literate in Japanese as his native comrades, Connor would not be able to read the name of the Kami inscribed on the talismans. As Connor, Masato, and possibly Oriru through the use of his orbs, would realize that it was written with an unfamiliar and almost other-worldly Kanji. Each time one began to think they understood or recognized the letters, the red ink that scribed the Kanjis would appear to move and transform to another unreadable symbol. The man who spoke before stood up and faced Connor and directed his gaze away from the group. "I'm a detective with the KPD, my colleagues and I have been investigating this Night of Wailing business for the past two years. Normally it's our policy to not involve you vigilante types, but it seems no one has given you guys the spill, so here it is. This shrine was recently rebuilt and newly dedicated to a very old and forgotten kami of the Kotaekōruyama clan. The clan head has apparently been nagging the municipality for years about having a shrine built for his clan's kami. Old blood clan, with some historical prevalence and the connections to match. Eventually he pulled the right strings and was allowed to do his thing in this old abandoned shrine in a forgotten corner of Karakura. It was enough to shut him up, but as you've probably guessed shortly after the shrine was reopened two years ago is when problems started happening. We've been trying to ID the head of the clan, but there have conveniently been no pictures of him to go by. He either met the authorities in private or dealt with them through liaisons. Look, think what you want, but as far as I can tell, we're fucked. My advise to you, if you're a man of faith and believe in a god you better pray to him while you still can. We've all decided who our god is and this is it." The detective said as he held up his own o-fuda between his face and Connor's. In that very moment something strange would likely fire off in Connor's heightened senses. At this closer proximity it was impossible for him to miss the scent that faintly emanated from the transforming talisman's reishi-infused red ink in which the name of the kami had been scribed. Though it had been penned hours prior, the smell of the fresh ink was still distinguishable enough for Connor to be able to trace it from the talisman in front of him, to where it was strongest in two other locations within the administration building. Those places were the basket filled with talismans held by the elderly woman and- A deadly silence seemed to consume the room like the emptiness of space. This was true for Connor and Masato. It was true for Captain Oriru, who'd gotten no where with the whispering loner, except for perhaps noticing the vitriol with which his pointed at in the direction of the praying group. Upon keener inspection it was clear he pointed at one man in particular. In the same instant, the Captain was given a talisman by one of his subordinates. It was also true for San Salvatore as he was acknowledged by the emotional teenage girl and promptly given a talisman of his own by one of the members of the social group just as they informed him that he should direct his thanks to the praying group for handing them out and that they heard the first person to arrive after was an older fellow who currently sat unassumingly in the supplicating mass. Most of all it was true to Tengu. ----- ... RYŪNOSUKE had paused in the middle of the room just seconds before as he unfolded the letter and began to read it silently, his eyes tracing over each word. To Mom, If you're reading this, it means I didn't survive and that I never returned home from trick-or-treating. You've probably already learned that I didn't listen to you and decided to sneak into the cemetery anyway. I guess you were right and maybe this is God's way of punishing me for being a disobedient brat of a daughter. You deserve so much better mom, and I am very sorry. I want you to know, that what happened wasn't your fault and that no matter what you might hear, I didn't suffer in my last moments and I wasn't afraid. I was sad and regretful, I wish I was a better daughter, but this experience has given some time to reflect. Too little too late though, right? I want you to know I spent my last night alive in the company of some very sweet people. Ryūnosuke's heartbeat elevated as he began to read the next few lines, which detailed the groups of people present in this very administrative building on this very same evening a year ago. With every detail described the teenager began to read more earnestly as his eyes stealthily darted around the room and checked if any of the individuals matched with those being mentioned in the letter. With every sentence read he eliminated a suspect and in his mind that portion of the room seemed to blank out from his mind until he reached the last few sentences. The first thing described on them was another group of praying individuals, handing out familiar talismans. There was a final mention of the group of praying individuals, the description of a single man who in the previous year admitted to being the one responsible for the talismans. With the silence came clarity as all the pieces fell into place and finally revealed the one truly at the heart of the talisman affair, the one who'd started the talk of Lady Tomoe in the administrative building, the one who rebuilt the shrine in the honor of his clan's unknown kami and thus had the access to cemetery records despite not being an employee himself. The one responsible for the removal of Tomoe's name from the records. The one until now referred to only as 'Him'. As as Connor traced the scent of the ink to the hands of the elderly man sitting in the midst of the praying group, Ryūnosuke dropped the letter and in his haste he also dropped Chizuru as he issued a Bringer's Light towards the door and smashed it open. His hand already engulfed in flame, he tore the talisman from the doorway and incinerated it in his hand. Lady Tomoe's mist and her reach flooded into the room and filled the teenager's being again. He jerked his head towards the elderly man and shouted out, his voice slightly distorted with a shriek and his skin visibly pale as bone. "IT'S HIM!" ----- ... KOTAEKŌRUYAMA SANETOKI obliterated the entire administrative building with a single explosive blast of Reiatsu the very instant the words left the mouth of the boy who'd been Tomoe's agent in disguise. None of the them would have a chance to react before they were blown away by the concussive force, several died instantly, and although Connor and Masato were the closest in proximity to the explosion and bared its greatest brunt, they were no were near dead. The blast of blinding magenta-colored energy knocked everyone to the floor, laid out amidst the rubble as the sky rained splintered wood and talisman papers. Sanetoki clicked his tongue disapprovingly as he departed into the mist. "It wasn't supposed to be this way." The short man, who appeared to be in his late forties said as he inhaled and swallowed the souls of all the recently perished humans, including Haruto and his poor wife, all the praying group, half the delinquents, the sobbing girls, and both the whispering men. They were drawn towards him as if sucked in by a super-powered vacuum. "Let's call them the appetizers." Sanetoki declared proudly. There was a shrieking growl from within the mist as a grey-eyed and unmasked Frenzied Wailer Tengu leaped the through the air towards Sanetoki and swung down on the man with a flame-engulfed bat. Much of the refined technique of Tengu's fighting style was lost and in its place a chaotic rage reigned. The teenager's body thrashed and swung his bat and was parried blow after blow. The others who would now be coming back to their senses would notice the teenager's fruitless effort just as he made a final lunge from which he with caught out of the air by his throat and slammed into the ground. Sanetoki then brushed back his hair and proceeded to walk towards the oratory hall. The Frenzied Wailer growled as he shakily attempted to stand up. Then with the cold words, "Stay down, puppet." Ryūnosuke was again flattened to the ground by a massive collapsed fist of magenta energy that struck him like a meteor. In his departure, the man addressed the others who were now regaining their bearing and coming to their feet. "Make no mistake, I have every intention of devouring you all by sunrise, but it seems Tomoe has out-lived her usefulness to me and now poses something of a formidable nuisance. Regardless of what I now stand to benefit from her timely demise, your collective objectives haven't changed at all. To stop Tomoe and save the innocent souls and your comrades, right? Those talismans should help clear the path for you to her, if you can find her anyway. Come see me when you're done. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere and neither are any of you. Hahahahah." The old man laughed as he retired into the oratory hall of the shrine, any attacks against him or the building would simply fade through them as if they were a mirage. The wailer army had already closed in from all directions and hundreds upon hundreds of the undead swarmed the survivors of the blast. The Shinigami were already on the move, Tenzaimon, now holding the lifeless body of Chizuru, and Kazuko currently led the charge towards the vortex that was seen several hundred meters away in the distance with Ito and several other Shinigami fighting a path clear for them. Ito called out to the Captain. "Captain Oriru! The talismans appear to be working our Zanpakutō can cut the souls right out of the corpses with a single strike! We're taking this girl's body to the vortex!" The cries of Shinigami and humans alike being dragged into the waves of reanimated corpses could be heard all around them as frequent and as loud as the shrieks and howls of the Wailers. At that moment the roar of Frenzied Wailer Tengu echoed through the mist, "GIVE HER BAAAAAAAACK!", his loud cry released a deafening shockwave through the mist as he began to charge towards the Shinigami. He'd have to pass Connor and Masato first. Beside Masato laid a severely wounded Kiri, who weakly grabbed Masato's sleeve and faintly called out to the Fullbringer as Tengu whizzed past him and towards Connor. "Hizorashi-san... take this!" Kiri coughed up blood and weakly-smiled as his shaky right hand placed a talisman in Masato's palm, "Use it! Save... your friend!" Kiri managed to say just as he fell unconscious. "OUT OF MY WAY!" Ryūnosuke roared as he swung his bat sideways at Connor and released a scorching wave of flames tethered to a shockwave of force backed by the entire might of his supernatural physical strength. The teenager no longer saw friends and foes and was acting solely in accordance with Tomoe's will. As Tomoe willed, the Shinigami were not to reach the vortex with the body of Chizuru. [Instructions: Two paths lay ahead. Each with their own consequences.] ------------------------ -----------------------
  8. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

Chance of Encounter: Inevitable ------ The resolute Shinigami group as a whole appeared to be uplifted by Captain Kusho's request to hear a report. One by one they did as was they were ordered and filled Captain Kusho in on all the information they'd gathered up until that point. Most of it, however, was simply information the Captain already had himself. There was one Shinigami named Ito, who seemed to have deliberately waited until the other had filled the Captain. As the others finished, they all went silent and turned to him, as if to give him his cue to speak. This Shinigami appeared to be quite young, a fledgling even among what appeared to be a group of experience seated officers. He in fact was the lowest ranked of the Seated Officer's who came on the mission. Fresh out of the Shino Academy, this was his first assignment on the field. Admitted he wasn't even supposed to play any significant part in the mission. He'd simply been regulated to carry equipment for the 12th Division researcher, for whom he was an assistant. Setting aside the fact that he'd last the equipment, but he'd also seen the rest of the researchers get assimilated into the mist. However that wasn't unique to him at all. Plenty of Shinigami, including Oriru himself had seen what became of their comrade who were pulled into the mist. The information that Ito had to offer was something entirely different. Another Shinigami who'd walked off moments earlier now returned with multiple blank sheets of paper and a marker. "Here you go, Ito." He then looked to Captain Oriru said, "Captain, you're gonna want to sit down for this, it's a lot to process at once." The other Shinigami would then clear a circle around Ito as he got down and his knees and laid the sheets of paper out on the floor. "Umm, so... I'm not really a full-fledged scientist yet... I actually won't be for a while.", he chuckled nervously, "I mostly just push around the equipment and do my best to remain invisible like I'm told." He looked up at Oriru for a moment but felt uncomfortable meeting his gaze and quickly looked back down at the papers. "But, I'm a really good listening and I can understand things pretty well. I'm not just some 'soft as tofu' klutz like most of you bastards say!" Tenzaimon cackled out loud and Ito visibly blushed. Kazuko simply pinched his brow and lowly muttered, "Ito, please get on with it." "Right. I'm sorry." Ito took a deep breath as he shifted some of the papers around on the floor to best resemble a cloud shape. "First of all, most of everyone I've spoken to has gotten the nature of this mist all wrong and we have to correct that if we want any of this to make sense." Ito began. "Think of all these papers together as the mist it's all around us and it has its own unique properties not seen in any normal mist, like sucking up souls. We all know that. But a lot of you are mistaking the mist as being made up of souls itself. This isn't the case. The mist is more like a network or a server. The souls are just trapped inside of it. We know the mist can also work like a medium for this Lady Tomoe to manipulate this and mess with stuff. The zombies or Rotted Wailers as the scientist called them." Ito drew the best impression of a zombie that he could with his limited artistic skills. "They're just soulless dead bodies, the mist can't do anything with them until a soul from inside the mist has entered them. We tested this by isolating a wailer inside of a barrier what we discovered in the case of Rotted Wailers is that the soul remains inside the corpse but they're catatonic, their like an inanimate object, they just wail and scream. Alone those soul can't even control the dead bodies they've possessed. It's not the bodies that Tomoe controls directly either, but the souls inside of them and she does this using the mist like a transmitter, like puppet strings." Ito drew a picture of a short crusty old witch with a pointed nose and jagged teeth. A few of the Shinigami snickered at what was obviously Ito's impression of Lady Tomoe. Ito blush and tried to ignore them as he continued. "Given that information, the researchers concluded that the mist itself is most probably a Fullbringer ability and that Lady Tomoe either is or once was a Fullbringer. It explains how she can control the dead bodies and why all our devices don't work, they're being hijacked by a Fullbringer. Our inability to properly sense presences narrows down to there being so many of them but that isn't the case for the shrine. Which brings me onto the Talismans. I think they aren't shutting out Tomoe herself, just the ability for captured souls to enter the shrine. I suspect the mist present in the shrine isn't natural mist at all and my evidence for this is that our devices... they still don't work on the shrine grounds." Ito paused and started to illustrate more entities of the papers on a few of them he draw larges black vortex-like swirls. "Now, living humans are a different story, Frenzied Wailer's aren't completely under Lady Tomoe's control until their souls have been fully separated from their physical bodies. Until then, their bodies are sort of half-possessed and Tomoe try to control them more through a sort of persuasion. In fact she tries that with everyone. Recall her voice and massage to us all. It's like she wants us to just submit to her will but I can't say to what end." It was at that point that Ito was interrupted by another Shinigami. "But you have a theory of how it might be possible to find out. Tell him. Tell the Captain about what happens to us Shinigami and what your plan is." Ito signed, "It's not really a plan, just a theory, based on all the information we'd gathered so far." "Well, spit it out, then!" Kazuko cut in. "After listening to all the reports. I have a theory that seems very plausible, but would take a huge risk to confirm. But I don't think Lady Tomoe is capable of controlling or manipulating Shinigami souls at all. We don't have physical bodies for her to possess and Shinigami souls are different from humans. She can certainly us the mist to weaken us like the humans and she can suck us into it but I don't think she has any control over us beyond that. Its likely none of the Wailers we've encountered so far were Shinigami spirits. And the logic behind this assumptions is the one thing every Shinigami assimilation has in common." Ito slammed his palm on top of one picture of the mist vortexes. "The vortexes!" he vocalized dramatically. "Each time a Shinigami got assimilated into the mist, it was always in the vortexes. The Wailers will not try to fight Shinigami to defeat then, they always try to pull Shinigami into the mist vortexes and my guess is that they serve as prisons of sort that trap the Shinigami souls inside of them so that we can't become Frenzied Wailers." "Because a Shinigami that possess a living body would be able to lead others to her location?" Kazuko guessed, seeming to understand where Ito was going with his theory. "Yes, exactly." Ito exclaimed. "Oi, Kazuko! What da'hell is dis little soy dumplin' sayin'?" Tenzaimon chimed in clearly a bit annoyed. "That a lot of strings being grasped for, Ito. You might be arriving at conclusions out of desperation." Kazuko turned to Oriru for his opinion on the matter. "Captain, you understand what he's proposing, right? He was us to take a human or a human-body and send them into the vortex to see what happens and hope they get possessed by one of our own who may or may not be turned by now." "All my evidence suggests we cannot be turned and our souls cannot be assimilated normally like the humans, thing about it. Humans from minute one have been susceptible to every portion of the mist humans can be assimilated at any moment, but only the vortexes can assimilate us and what's more, the vortexes never appear around the humans." Another Shinigami cut in. "Look, at the end of the day, what is there to lose? We're stuck in here and we don't have any other ideas. If the kid thinks it might work I say we try it." The Shinigami then lowered his voice a bit, but not enough. "We can ask for a volunteer, and the worst case we grab any of these humans just do it." "Enough! We do what Captain Oriru decides.", was how Kazuko ended the conversation. While this all was happening, the other Fullbringers were all without hearing distance of the Shinigami's discussion. Ryūnosuke would have noticed an enveloped letter on the table just a few minutes earlier. The envelope was light blue and stuck out from between a stack of overturned papers that looked like they'd been dumped out of a storage box. Ryūnosuke would notice that the date on the letter was from October thirty-first... of last year. As Masato inquired about any odd activity, Haruto would simply berate him for thinking ill of Kiri. "You've got a lot of nerve, implying something like that! Let's go somewhere else, honey. We have nothing else to say to this despicable man. Shame on you." Haruto spat at Masato as he stood to his feet and his wife stood with him, she too appeared a bit agitated, but she did not voice her discontent. Before they turned to leave, Haruto said some parting only. "That brave young man has been nothing but an outstanding model citizen, who's tried his best to remain calm during this terrible ordeal and you'd doubt his sincerity 'wholeheartedly' you said. I will say this, only if to do no more that help clear that boy's name. He lost his mother and little brother to the mist last year and he came here tonight to try and find out what happened to them." With that the man and his wife left to the opposite side of the room and approached Kiri. Haruto told him about the questions Masato was asking and Kiri simply shook his head lightly and patted Haruto's shoulder before he turned to face Masato and then approached him. He stayed out of arms reach, deciding he'd rather not run into a similar situation as the one that occurred with Connor. "So, Hizorashi-san, was it? Haruto-san tells me you have some questions? Look, I don't want any trouble. For some reason you and I'm sure your colleague don't trust me as it is. You clearly thing I am guilty of something so it likely doesn't matter what I say or if I cooperate, but for the sake of trying to keep the peace I'm willing to answer any questions you have. So, please. Ask away." The delinquents were a merry bunch of punks who'd found themselves trapped within the mist and now in the possession of their own Reiatsus, this fact had emboldened them to act with their usual delinquency. They were loud and rude, but mostly stuck to themselves as long as no one bothered them as the practice breaking stuff and hitting each other with their increased physical strength. When they noticed Connor's approach they were completely unaware of the strength of the entity that approached them. In reaction the stood and glared at Connor as he neared them, but not for long. As soon as Connor entered a certain distance from them each of the delinquents collapsed to the floor, put to sleep under the sheer overwhelming intensity of Connor's Reiatsu. One of the delinquents seemed to resist for a bit longer than the other and simply mutter, "Fuck you, gaijin bastard." before he passed out. It seemed the combination of having a low Reiatsu and also having exhausted their energies is pointless foolery the delinquents had eliminated any chance of their being able to resist Connor's unimpeded Reiatsu output. In response to San's words a few of the conversing individuals would simple chuckle and offer him a seat. One explained that it was fine, he had no need to feel sorry because they'd all pretty much accepted the whole situation. If this was really going to be their last night alive they wanted it be be a happy one. They explained that most of them arrived within the last hour or so. Some where near the shrine when the who thing began at sunset. Not of them knew much about the mist besides what they'd overheard from the Shinigami and Hideo's group. However, they would point out that most of the praying group and the crying teenage girls were there when they arrived. ------------------------ ------------------------
  9. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

Chance of Encounter: Inevitable ------ Kiri shook the hands of all the newcomers as they entered the administrative building. It was nothing more than an inconspicuous and cordial gesture to all but one of the new arrivals. The young man who visibly appeared to be the most average of the group --although the out pour of his Reiatsu vociferously stated otherwise-- allowed his firm hold on Kiri's hand to linger and it grew progressively tighter. At first, Kiri continued to smile in a welcoming fashion to the foreigner and calmly resisted the squeeze with all the might one would expect from an average and slightly Spiritually Aware human. It was barely seconds before Kiri's face was red with pain as he attempted to stealthily pull his hand away without making a scene. "Uh, you've got a strong grip there." he said with a strained tone voice and chuckled awkwardly. It also happened that Connor was forcing his Reiryoku through Kiri's hand and the young man felt it as an extremely uncomfortable force on top of an already immensely uncomfortable ordeal, but Kiri would have no way of resisting the intrusion of Reiatsu or even knowledge of it taking place. "You mind letting go now, sir?" Kiri winced and finally tugged his hand away, visible stressed and confused as a slight electric sensation surged through his body. As He had no idea why this complete stranger who'd he been nothing but cordial with seemed to have a desire to injure him, but his grievances seemed to pass just as quickly as Connor did from his immediate presence. Like a strange and bad memory. Unbeknownst to Kiri, Connor had probed his Reiatsu with his own and somehow managed to secretly gather some information against Kiri's will. For one, he discovered that Kiri had a Reiatsu and physical strength that barely surpassed that of normal twenty-year old human male. His Reiatsu also had no "element" to be spoken of. Kiri's supernatural capabilities with no further than allowing him to see entities that were invisible to the normal humans with no Spiritual-awareness at all. Because his ability to see ghost, Kiri was quite literally just a normal nice guy. Connor might have also sensed a complete lack of blood-lust or malice in Kiri's near non-existent Reiatsu. Kiri posed no harm, he was a threat to no one. If fact, he might as well have been the least threatening person in the entire building --no, the entire cemetery. Would Connor be able to sense the sincerity in Kiri's Reiatsu? The young man's true desire and intention to only help as much as he could. Would anyone sense Kiri's complete lack of envy or jealousy over not having more power and being able to make that kind of actionable difference like Connor, the Fullbringers and the Shinigami. Perhaps they probing would even reveal the respect and admiration he had for those people with the power who chose to use it for the sake of good, to help others rather than to oppress them. After Connor, Tengu was the next to shake Kiri's still aching hand. Seeing the body carried in the young man's arms, Kiri softened his smile out of respect and nodded and with a more formal deposition as he welcomed the Tengu-masked human into the building. Kiri noticed when Tengu paused and turned to face the young man as he asked his question. In response Kiri smiled warmly and nodded, as if he'd expected the question already, as if he'd answered it many times before. "Ah, that's simple. Believe it or not, its all thanks to this bad boy." Kiri pointed to an O-fuda on the side of the doorway, it was extremely easy to miss and overlook, especially given the thick mist outside. "Apparently this talisman is warding off the evil in the mist for now. No one is sure how or when it got there, but for the time being we have nothing to worry about. A few of the guys even tested it so you can rest easy." He explained. Inside the administration building a crying couple were approached by Masato. As the stranger greeted them and asked if he could sit with them, it was the man who first reacted by looking around the room briefly at all the other places Masato could have chosen to sit. His eyes red with tears, he looked up at Masato a bit disgusted but he wouldn't get the chance to verbally voice his objection as his partner caressed his face and pressed her forehead to his briefly. "But, dear-" "He's just trying to be friendly." she whispered. "Fine.", the man conceded. "You're welcome to sit with us, Hizorashi-san." As Masato sat it was the woman who answered most of his inquiries. "I'm Chiyo and this is my husband, Haruto. Haruto works here at the cemetery, I wanted to surprise him the evening by picking him up from work. But then... well, you know all this happened." Haruto dropped his head and sobbed, saddened that a selfless act of love by his wife was the reason they would both likely die now. "You want to know about Kiri-san?" Chiyo asked back skeptically, she clearly didn't seem to know much, but Haruto was suddenly more outspoken. "Kiri-san has done nothing but try to help and comfort everyone with all that's going on. Someone as young as he is, being able to keep a level head like that through all of this... we're all grateful for him.", Haruto ended. Chiyo smiled and nodded in confirmation before the couple hugged one another. Meanwhile, the speech given by Captain Kusho had been effective in steeling the resolves of the Shinigami who were already prepared to go out with a blaze of glory and even turned a lot of the doubtful. Sadly, for the few Shinigami who'd truly resigned themselves to their fate, no amount of speech could convince them to change their minds. However, even with the Shinigami numbers bolstered and ready for a battle, they still had no clear directions from the Captain. It would be one seated-officer who pointed this out after the others all confirmed their decision to stand and fight with Oriru. "We're all ready to stand with you, Captain Kusho. Just give us our orders. What should we do?" ------------------------ ------------------------
  10. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

Chance of Encounter: Inevitable ------ Egriffiend's army of the undead continued its steady march on the Shrine ground as an encroaching force several thousand strong. Their wails and howls could be heard from every direction, making it clear to all those present on the shrine grounds that out there in the mist, beyond what their eyes but still unmistakably near was their impending doom. If they those to see it that way. For the few who she reached, the arrival of the wailers marked the beginning of the coming of their salvation. Their deliverance from a greater evil. As if prompted on cue, the door of the shrine administrative building would open to the right side of the Fullbringers, grabbing their attention and likewise the attention of the Shinigami as well. Though the building was several feet away, it was close enough for the Fullbringers and the Shinigami to make out the first human to exit the facility and willing step directly into the mist. "Come. Come my brothers and sisters our savior awaits us. Lady Tomoe calls, she welcomes us, her children into her arms. She will deliver us from doom and we need not but accept her offering. Do not be afraid!" The man raved with the vigor of a cult fanatic. He was a tall and slender man with eyes and cheeks that seemed to be sunken inwards due to exhaustion, malnourishment, and excessive smoking and alcohol consumption as attributed to his likely occupation as a middle-class salary-man before this night had started. However, the man's zeal and animation starkly betrayed his physical features as he faced the open door and spread his arms out wide in a welcoming pose, sleeves and ends of the white kariginu robe worn over his tan dress suit waved and fluttered lightly in the mist as he raised his head and continued his speech. "Come now, brothers and sisters! There is nothing to fear! There is no pain here... there is no struggle. With Lady Tomoe we are loved and remembered forever!", he preached passionately. Within moments the man's call was answered as one-by-one other humans and even a few Shinigami began to exit the administrative building, all clan in white ceremonial robes. The atmosphere of the group varied, while most shared the leader's enthusiasm it was clear that a few were still skeptical and even fewer of them seemed like they didn't really believe in anything the man sad, but they'd given up and resigned themselves to it anyway. As a few of the Shinigami exited the building they would notice Captain Kusho, Hitsuyona, Kazuko, and Tenzaimon, for a moment they would appear shocked but then they would simply lower their heads, avoid eye-contact and continue on their way into the mist. "Hey hey hey, Tadashi yah bastard!" Tenzimon shouted out, recognizing one of the Shinigami in the congregation. The one named Tadashi simply turned away and continued to walk. "Don' pretend yeh ain't seen us, yah limp dick coward!" His words would touch the nerves of one of the Shinigami who nearly threw himself in the direction of the group but was held back by one of his peers, who simply shook his head and whispered something into the emotional Shinigami's ears. As tears began to flow from his eyes the agitated Soul Reaper gave up and simply shouted back. "Shut the Hell up, Tenzaimon. You fucking gorilla! You didn't see what we saw and if you had one functioning neuron in that rat shit brain of your of yours he'd be here with us. Fuck you!" Tadashi sobbed. "Just leave us be." Another Shinigami shouted out from the mist growing ever distant. "What, ge' back ovah 'ere 'n' say dat to my face, you chicken's bitch!" Tenzaimon began to take a step forwards, but was promptly yanked by the sleeve of his shihakusho by Kazuko. "Calm yourself, moron. Captain Oriru has given us direct orders to stand down." Kazuko muttered. A total of twelve individuals exited the administrative building and walked into the depths of the mist after the leader as he continued his enthusiastic promises of salvation. Within seconds, they were all gone. Only Ryūnosuke would know the outcome of their pilgrimage and how it ended. As the group was swallowed by the front line of the Wailer army and assimilated some embraced their fate with open arms like the leader. A few tried to resist and some turned tail to run but to no avail. They all joined the mist. Ryūnosuke would feel it clearly. After the group departed another younger man emerged in the doorway, he was in a much better condition than the fanatic leader and was dressed in a black suit. He had shoulder length black hair and had a very casual laid back aura. He looked to be only a few years older that Ryūnosuke and maybe the same age as Connor. He had a slightly defeated expression on his face until his eyes fell on the group outside. The man smiled and waved their way, "Hey, you guys are are survivors, right! Come on over here, the mist doesn't work on the shrine grounds. We're all gathered inside, there are more Shinigami too." He assured before he turned to face the supposed others inside the administrative building. "There are some more survivors outside, these guys seem strong, too!" He turned back to the group and continued. "Well, what are you guys waiting for? Get in here." Not at all reading the mood of the two opposed groups who'd been on the brink of a full on battle moments earlier, the man waved his right arm and did a rapid beckoning motion with his arm. The human would wait for the first individual to approach the door and he would extend his hand for a shake while bowing his head. "Nice to meet you, my name is Kiri." He would proceed to offer each of the new arrivals a bow and handshake, and occasionally added in a gracious "Welcome, please come inside.". The inside of the administrative building was well-lit and rather spacious. There were about twenty or so individuals present, huddled in small clusters around the room. All eyes fell on the newcomers and the room was filled with whispers and even a bit of sobbing and crying, but it didn't take long for those present to impassively turn their heads back to whatever they were previously occupied with. Kiri let out a faint sigh of embarrassment. "Eh, you have to excuse the others. Morale in here has been pretty low. Can't really blame them all things considered. That nut-job Hideo and his followers had their part in that but as annoying as they were, its pretty sad that we lost almost a third of our group. The trust is, we're all at a lost of what to do. I guess Hideo and his guys wanted something to believe in and well, they found it." Kiri fell silent for a moment. "I can tell you guys have been through a lot, so I'll give you guys some space and time to rest and I guess decide what you want to do next.", with that, Kiri walked off to coddle a group of teens who were crying in a corner. The feel of the room was rather grim overall. Some people were stiff with shock, others were whispering to themselves. Some prayed, a few others wrote down letters for their loved ones. There was one group who seemed to be taking the situation well, and had simply gathered together to chat enjoy the last moments they believed they had alive. Others seemed confident they would be saved soon. A group of Shinigami huddled alone and seemed to be awaiting the approach of Captain Kusho to receive their orders. The departure of Hideo's group left a very felt emptiness in the room but that void would be easily filled by the arrived of the seven newcomers. [Instructions: Rest and decide your next move. 11. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

Chance of Encoumter: Inevitable ----- Kazuko felt the muscles of his face and shoulders relax as he immediately sensed the presence of Captain Oriru Kusho and the former Stealth Force Commander Hitsuyona Shizukesa as he and Tenzaimon set foot on the shrine grounds. They arrived from the south of the shrine from the opposite side of the stairs that the two captains were on. "Captain Kusho is here, we need to inform him of what's going on." Kazuko communicated to his juggernaut of an ally. Tenzaimon, still focused and introspective simply nodded and flatly murmured "Yeh". The two Shinigami hastily made their way up across the sando path, approaching Oriru and Hitsuyona from behind, they didn't notice the three humans until they were practically five feet away. At which point both of the seated officers slid to a halt and drew their Zanpakutō and stood battle ready. Having arrived just in time to see hear Hitsuyona finish his theory about the nature of the Mist and the beings in control of it, Tenzaimon was the one to immediately respond, cutting off any chance the humans had to speak. "Captain Kusho, former Commander Shizukesa, don'ean bother enertainin' these bastards! They know all 'bout da Mist and de entity Miss Lady Tomoe!" However crude Tenzaimon's manner of speech was, it changed nothing of the facts he presented and Kazuko was quick to corroborate and elaborate further on his comrade's claims. "Captain, Tenzaimon is right! The humans can't be trusted! They've been under the control of this Lady Tomoe from the start!" Kazuko boldly stated. Realizing the gravity of his accusation, and being aware that at the time of the mist's emergence Captain Oriru had not yet entered the Cemetery and thus had not seen what the other Shinigami who were already inside had seen, the seated officer explained further. "Our unit was already inside the cemetery at sunset and we even met up with a group of Fullbringers." "Yeh, not these assholes, but some other ones. We rounded 'em up, wanted to keep 'em outta da way.", Tenzaimon interjected. "That's right, but not of that mattered once the mist emerged. All the humans, all throughout the mist were suddenly under the control of Lady Tomoe! The guys with us broke free and attacked our unit. And it didn't just happen to us, another unit reported that the same thing happened to the humans they had eyes on!", Kazuko paused to catch his breath. "Granted, some of the humans seemed to snap out of the trance for a while, but the fact still stands. This Lady Tomoe can potentially seize control of humans whenever she wants!" "Dats fancy talk for we can't trust 'em. Especially not wit da' heat we're expecting." Tenzaimon chimed in. Kazuko believed everything he said was true, he'd witnessed it all personally, but the fact still remained that he hadn't seen these specific humans and there was always the possibility that they were a unique case. He prided himself on being a thorough and critical thinker and if there was a chance he'd mistaken he was prepared to accept it. Also, knowing what he knew of the renowned Captain Oriru, Kazuko knew the Captain would likely not take a dramatic position without having all the right evidence and proof. So, Tenzaimon would present the last piece of evidence he had that would almost certainly dispel any doubt in the Captain's mind. Until this moment, the Shinigami had not allowed the humans to speak for themselves, but Kazuko would now end with a question aimed at the three humans directly. "I'm sure you three want the chance to clear your names and lucky for you, there is no need for a drawn out back and forth." Tenzaimon, confused, eyed Kazuko curiously. His visible intrigue was one Kazuko imagined was shared by the Captains as well. Although, he didn't expect the humans would appear surprised themselves that would make him wonder if he'd actually missed something. Regardless, Kazuko continued, "Just answer this one question. At sunset, when the mist emerged, what what exactly did you do? Where were you, how did you get there?" Kazuko realized that lying was not out of the realm of possibilities for the humans, but the actual answer, while potentially damning in its own right, was not the objective of the question. The point was to look at their reactions; would there be a moment of hesitation, uncertainty? Kazuko knew the Captains would also be alerted of any telling reactions presented by the humans in their response. He had no way of knowing that Captain Kusho had heard rapid footsteps in the mist when the Night of Wailing. Although the Captain could choose to draw the conclusion that the footsteps he heard were indeed the three Fullbringers before him charging into the cemetery -and it absolutely was them- the fact was, Oriru himself would have no way of being absolutely certain himself. In the meantime, Kazuko stood with Tenzaimon, prepared to strike down the Fullbringers if it came to that. ------ [Ryūnosuke] Though she could not sense it herself, Egriffeind was able to see and hear the arrival of the two new Shinigami and their their conversation through the eyes and ears of Ryūnosuke. With each word spoken by the Shinigami she grew more and more threatened and communicated her discomfort to her champion hoping to further sway his heart. "Don't listen to them, Ryūnosuke! Do not be deceived! They want to hurt you. They want to hurt us all." Egriffiend would share the collective memory of the mist with the Tengu-Masked Fullbringer. He would see Kazuko and Tenzaimon in his mind as they struck down countless Rotted Wailers. Initially, Ryūnosuke would think nothing of it, but within seconds the way he saw and heard the Rotted Wailers would change. Not visually, but his perception of them. To Ryūnosuke the Rotted Wailers weren't reanimated corpses, they were the crying and wailer souls of hundreds of lost and forgotten souls; innocence. They were not his enemy, they were important to him, he cared deeply for them all. They intended no harm, they only wanted to make those trapped in the mist realize the truth. "They know the truth, but they want to deny it. They want to destroy everything... they want to kill me! Protect me, Ryūnosuke."
  12. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

[Elsewhere In The Baleful Mist] ------ Chance of Encounter: Inevitable ------ [Ryūnosuke] As his current pace, the Tengu-masked Fullbringer would be the first to arrive at the Shrine; facing the decorative stone lanterns on the sides of the white marble pathway leading to the oratory and then the main hall. The shrine's administrative office was twenty or so feet to his right and the boy would be able to see it clearly even through the grey barrier of the Baleful Mist. He would begin to sense the distinct Reiatsu signatures of his comrades and all the remaining wanderings not just in the area, but throughout the entirety of the Mist as well. He would also feel the presence of every Rotted Wailer in all of their countless hundreds as they made their advance towards the shrine. Soon to be Egriffiend's chosen one, her champion, and the strongest of her subjects, there remained only two "blind spots" to the young Fullbringer. Although he could feel Egriffiend's presence permeated throughout the entire mist and even within him, he could not pinpoint her precise location at all. The other blind spot to his senses was the shrine grounds as a whole. It was a place within which Egriffiend no longer commanded influence or power; and although nothing escaped the reach of the mist, within the shrine ground the mist was nothing more than a harmless fog. The corrupted souls of the Baleful Mist could no more enter. Egriffiend and all the spirits warned Ryūnosuke to avoid the shrine at all cost. "Turn back!" "You mustn't enter the shrine! He is there and I am powerless against him.", warned Lady Tomoe. "Turn back!" "Warn your friends, turn back before it is too late.", the voices cried and wailed to the Tengu-masked Fullbringer with every step he took. And with every voice their memories, instincts, and greatest fear flowed through him. Not only could he hear their voices, but he could also feel what they felt and the shrine had every spirit in the Baleful Mist utterly terrified. "He is there! He is there!" The spirit shrieked and wailed endlessly. The silhouette of a faceless man would flash in Ryūnosuke's mind. The man extended a helping hand out to Ryūnosuke and the teenager would be able to make out only a warm smile on the man's face but he'd also know that the warmth was a lie and that the man was a deceiver. "Do you understand now, Ryūnosuke? If you go into the shrine I cannot protect you from Him." Egriffiend explained through the soft voice of Lady Tomoe as she reached out to him with the mist. Two arms of mist hugged Ryūnosuke from behind and attempt to hold him tack. "Don't go. Stay with me... with your friends and Chizuru. We're all here, in the mist." ------ [Oriru - Hitsuyona] Half-way into their uphill trek, the two Shinigami, Captain and Former-Commander, would see a spot ahead where the Sakura garden ended and gave way to a marble stair path extending up the rest of the hillside. The Sakura garden continued onward on the opposite side of the path. At the peak of the stairs they could see the shrine gate and from there it was a straight path forwards to Sendo to the oratory hall. Along the path, they would pass the Temizuya pavilion to their left before they walked between the decorative stone lanterns on either side of the shrine path long before the oratory and the main hall were in view. ------ [Masato - Connor] The path of the two Fullbringers would naturally set them in the direction from which the cyan thread connected to Ryūnosuke extended. If they followed the thread, they would ultimately meet up with their supposed ally and most likely the two Shinigami. ------ While on the Shrine grounds, the Shinigami and the Fullbringers would be able to sense the Reiatsu signatures of the few survivors on the shrine grounds scattered about in different areas, but most gathered in the main shrine Hall while others occupied the administrative building. Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

[Ryūnosuke] Frenzied Wailer Byakko shrieked in anger as her jab was deflected and she was subsequently stuck by the Tengu's bat and pushed backwards by the sheer force behind her opponent's strike. She had no time to react to being smacked against another tree. The Tengu closed the distance between them in a blurred motion and held her by the back of her head as he shouted out to the spirit of Chizuru, which had all but fully been assimilated into the Baleful mist by this point. The other unnamed soul possessing Chizuru's body had now been beaten and weakened to a point of no longer being able to maintain dominance over the physical body and with the forceful headbutt, the corrupted spirit passed freely from Byakko's body and returned to the mist. The lifeless body of the one named Chizuru would fall forwards into the Tengu-masked Fullbringer. Though her complexion would return to its natural state her body would remain cold and without any sign of life. The boy named Ryūnosuke had fought valiantly and courageously, but all that struggle and strife and the anguish over having lost his beloved companion had left him vulnerable. Egriffiend could feel his presence more potently than ever. The blazing Spiritual Essence that was the Tengu-masked Fullbringer's soul was now within her grasp and hers to finally claim. From all around Ryūnosuke the Baleful Mist would begin to thicken, converge, and ultimately --fight and struggle as he might-- nothing would impede the Baleful Mist's flow into his form as it passed between the cracks and openings in his mask. The boy would not be aware of the Baleful Mist's full effect. At this stage, he wouldn't be aware of the fact that his soul was now connected directly to the mist and the countless souls within it. He would however begin to hear their voices like faint whispers just beside his ears. They called out to him, compelled and begged him to do what was right: to protect Lady Tomoe. There was one voice that could be heard clearer than the others, it started off unfamiliar and feminine --distinctly motherly-- but gradually, the voice and tone would twist until it came to sound like Ryūnosuke's own. For now, the feminine voice whispered reassuringly. "Be calm, little one. There is no pain here... there is no struggle. Here you are loved and remembered forever." While Ryūnosuke might still hold the will to resist the call of the Baleful Mist, it would ultimately overcome him. And when he finally answer the call he would answer it as a Frenzied Wailer. The strongest Frenzied Wailer of them all. [-441 HP] [Remaining HP: 000] Frenzied Wailer Byakko Defeated. ------ [Hitsuyona] The Frenzied Wailer Groom was left entirely at the mercy of the enemies as he found himself attacked from two fronts. From within the Baleful Mist he could feel that all his comrades had already been defeated. Fortunately, not everything was lost; from their battle they had gained an invaluable ally. Kanada let out a victorious howl as he was bound and battered by the bombardment of Kidō. The corrupted spirit broke free of Kanada's body right after the golden tornado shredded away the remains of his cloths and left cut wounds all over Kanada's body as it fell lifeless to the ground. [-942 HP] [Remaining HP: -457] Frenzied Wailer Groom Defeated. ------ With the Frenzied Wailers all defeated, an eerie silence would yet again befall the Baleful Mist. Although the battle might have been viewed as a small victory in the eyes of the stranded souls, human and Shinigami alike, little did they know that the true victory was Egriffiend's and hers alone. In their continued and futile struggle, they had done nothing but push themselves closer to their inevitable fate. One of them, much much sooner than the others. It was now that Egriffiend would officially announce her presence, her shrieking and throaty voice echoed throughout the Cemetery like an ominous whisper in the breeze. "You poor things... Misguided and stranded... lost and afraid... why do you fight? Why do you struggle? Don't you understand, there is no escape from the Niebla Nefasta. Your efforts are wasted. You need not tire or fear... embrace the mist... accept your fate and I will comfort you to the end of your days." Egriffiend's words ended with a low drawn out gasp. Seconds later the wails and howls of the Rotted Wailers could be heard coming from all directions but one. To Oriru, Hitsuyona, and Ryūnosuke that direction was North-west --an uphill trek through the Sakura garden for the Shinigami. To Masato and Connor the road of least resistance was a straight shot to the West, back in the direction from which they'd flown. All roads pointed towards the shrine, though all their paths would likely converge before that destination was reached. [Instructions: ???] ------------------------
  14. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

------ [Oriru] Frenzied Wailer Alice took a step backwards as the numerous black rods of energy shot downwards at her from an angle. Far too many and at too fast a pace for her to hope to completely avoid them all. The Frenzied Bride stood light on her toes and darted side to side, attempting to dodge some of the rods. Alas, it was not long before her efforts were rendered redundant, as following a skip to the right that was just an inch too shallow, the first of a black rods pierced seamlessly through her left thigh and anchored it to the ground. Alice howled with frustration as a dozen more of the rods similarly rooted her where she stood. With only her right arm free, Alice, in a seemingly final act of desperation, caught one of the last falling rods out of the air, bit onto it and broke off its end forming a pointed edge. She growled horribly as she struggled to jerk herself free, but her body did not move. The little mobility she had left would have to do. The Frenzied Wailer Bride wound back her free right arm as the Black and white points began to form their dome-like structure around her. With a final shrieking wail, Alice launched her second improvised spear directly at the center of the Shinigami's body. The spirit that inhabited Alice's body would not see the outcome of the attack through Alice's eyes as the Captain's final attack weakened it to the point were it could no longer maintain possession of the human body. As the remnant energy of the last attack faded, Alice's soul-less body lay motionless and lifeless of the ground and the weakened spirit returned gracefully to the mist with a faint whistle. [-585 HP] [Remaining HP: -55] Frenzied Wailer Bride Defeated. ------ [Masato] "NO!", the nameless girl grunted as she found herself suddenly bound to Mimi's body by one of the transformed cyan spikes. Within a second she noticed that her arms and legs had also been tied down. "NO, LET ME GO, YOU BASTARD!" She demanded in her struggle, jerking her head from side to side and wiggling violently in a fruitless effort to break free. "I'LL KILL YOU! NO, MIMI!" she whined and cried. "Lady Tomoe will destroy you for this!" She threatened as she saw the Fullbringer pick up the gravestone and suddenly reappear in front of the stuffed rabbit's head. The Frenzied Wailer Girl saw the gravestone raised and her eyes widened, flowed with tears as what remained of her spirit knew exactly what was to come, "MIMI!", she cried in terror and Masato brought down the gravestone over the stuffed rabbit's head. Suddenly, the girl's own head fell low and motionless, like a life-sized doll, she showed no signs of life as the Baleful Mist poured out of her form like a final breath and rejoined the cloud-like mass along with the entirety of the girl's own spirit. Her empty body was left behind to collapse as the destroyed rabbit doll reverted to its original size. [-232 HP] [Remaining HP: -45] Frenzied Wailer Kid & Stuffed Rabbit Defeated. ------ [Hitsuyona] The Frenzied Wailer groom observed on all fours, as the Shinigami retracted his Zanpakutō and following a brief sigh, enchanted the words, “Bakudō # 30: Shitotsu Sansen.” Had the Frenzied Wailer any functions besides enforcing the will of Lady Tomoe, the insulting sigh might’ve ensued his rage and mindless attack. But unlike the other Frenzied, he seemed content with bidding his time, even as the Shinigami created a suspicious golden triangle with just his fingertips. The curiosity of the contorted Wailer would come to a halt when from the corners of the golden triangle shot 3 fast beams of the same color. They moved in unison and pointed straight for his person. But with his speed and impulse alone, the groom was able to evade by hopping a short distanced to his left. The Shinigami’s next gesture and enchantment, “DaichiKkaho,” would trigger the rumbles and tremors of the ground before chunks of various shapes and sizes were lifted from the ground. Frenzied Wailer Kanada watched as the unearthed rocks were suddenly set ablaze while they poured down towards him, shaking the earth once again with every missed landing. The Frenzied Wailer used minimal leaping movements to dodge the projectiles until he noticed their descents were all just around him. He felt he was being cornered by the showering onslaught and as such, made long leaps to create greater distance. In his distraction, the wailer neither noticed the blue light nor the concentrated blast created by the Shinigami. The flaming blue pillar hit the Frenzied Wailer Groom on his left side while he was mid-leap, consequently pushing him into a tree truck behind him. From the tree trunk, Kanada fell on his back, and with no indication of sustaining injury, he simply flipped back onto his hands and feet and quickly crept behind the tree hoping to use it as cover from Hitsuyona’s next attack. [-126] [Remaining HP: 485] ------ [Ryūnosuke] Frenzied Wailer Byakko growled and hissed at her masked enemy as he reversed her mount and claimed the advantageous position over her. She had no control over their subsequent flight and it happened at such a speed that did not allow her to realize their destination or her enemy's true intentions. With one hand holding down the Tengu's left arm and her own left arm controlled by his right one, Frenzied Wailer Chizuru had only one option to attack and she seized it without hesitation. As they collided with the first tree, Chizuru opened her mouth and sunk her teeth deep into the side of Tengu's neck, biting through the material of his jacket. She had no way of assessing the success of her attack, but it didn't matter as the collision with the second tree forced open her mouth and hands. She released the Tengu and he likewise released her as he stepped backwards to a tree opposite to her. Chizuru shrieked as her enemy leveled his shoulders and appeared to wait for her to make a move. She raised both her fist and blurred forwards in one sudden step. Stopping at an arm's reach from the Tengu, she jabbed her right fist towards his heart the punch would injure like a dagger wound and prove potentially fatal if it landed. [-294 HP] [Remaining HP: 441] ------ [Connor] The Frenzied Wailer Policeman spared no expense in the issuance of his next attack as the criminal's spear slashed the inside of his knee. The moment he felt spear slap against his back and begin to push him for forwards, a second wave of pressure would drop down over the enemy as the policeman himself fell. He rolled forward to a kneel supported on just his left leg and stared sharply at the enemy. Having acknowledged his own defeat the Frenzied Wailer addressed his enemy in his last moments. "Mark my words, criminal scum. You will not escape judgement. You will not harm Lady Tomoe." With those final words, the essence of the weakened corrupted spirit rose out from the Policeman's body in the form of a stream of mist that swirled skywards and then dispersed within the great mass of the Baleful Mist. 15. Egriffiend

Egriffiend's Night of Wailing [Event Arc]

[Masato] Masato's coat tail would indeed cut through the cotton stuffing of Mimi's arm and given the downward momentum of the toy rabbit's heavy descent, it would come as no surprise that the doll's arm was severed off entirely. It was as if it had fallen upon the edge of an inverted guillotine. Mimi lay motionless and lifeless awaiting his next orders and didn't flinch even as Masato's blade warped within its cotton form and punctured the stuffed rabbit full of spikes from the inside. The unnamed girl stood silently for a moment, her eyes formed large, veiny, and horrified circles as bits of cotton fell around her like snow. The Frenzied Wailer girl's shoulders began to visibly shake with anger. "Now, you've done it...", she hissed creepily as she began to stomp towards Masato swaying deeply to the right and left with every step as she raised her left palm and pointed it at Hizorashi. "You're fucking dead.", she growled and closed her left fist. This action caused the severed arm to fire through the air like a missile. The arm would pursue Masato endless. It would swat at the Fullbringer's right side before disappearing into the mist, only to loop around attempt to ram into Masato. Hoping to distract Masato, the unnamed girl would rush to Mimi and hopelessly try --and fail-- to lift Mimi off of the spikes. [Kid: Reiryoku Speed: 130] [-233 HP] [Remaining HP: 187] ------ [Oriru] Frenzied Wailer Alice did not take kindly to being pulled around like a rag doll and openly expressed her discontent with her continuous pull and resistance against the Captain's manipulation of the levitating sphere. Although it seemed the Shinigami's control over orb was superior to her own physical strength, that would not deter Alice at all. As the five black metal rods dropped from the sky above her, the Frenzied Wailer Bride did not appear phased in the slightest. She anchored her feet to the ground and stared up at the descending rods, and with a small hop backwards while still holding the orb, she re-positioned herself just outside the range of the rod poised to fall directly where she'd just stood. The bride growled as she slammed the rod with her open right palm and her fingers dug into to medal like nails into a wooden plank. She wailed loudly and stared directly at the incoming beam of energy, using the metal rod to hold her position, the Frenzied Wailer outstretched her left arm and pointed the orb directly at the beam and waited. The resulting collision caused the beam to arc out around the surface of the orb. As the straying strands of energy shot outwards, several crashed into the metal rods destroying them. One of the beams hit Alice directly, but caused no major physical damage. Using the beam as cover, Alice yanked her right hand from the metal rod and tore a pointed shard for it, about the length of a short spear. Without hesitation, the Frenzied Wailer hurled the metal spear directly at the Captain's heart with an aggressive grunt. She would follow up by taking the entire rod, tearing it from the others and then launching it at the Captain for extra measure. [-385 HP] [Remaining HP: 530] ------ [Hitsuyona] The Frenzied Wailer Groom held tightly to the threads as he was pulled towards the former Captain was prepared to launch his headbutt attacks. Surprisingly, Kanada's body was knocked backwards by an invisible force as the Shinigami pointed his finger. Kanada resisted the push of the force, but his first attack had been successfully thwarted. He answered the explosive beam attack with the second headbutt and that action proved sufficient enough to knock the Groom backwards and sear the skin of his forehead. The yellow orb of electric energy crashed into the Frenzied Wailer and knocked him to the ground. Kanada wailed and writhed around on the ground clutching his abdomen for a moment before rolling over to a crawl on all fours after having dropped the threads moments earlier. The Frenzied Wailer was visibly confused by the repel attack that deflected his headbutt. Tilting his head, Kanada scurried from side to side moving around the mist and observing the Shinigami, waiting for the best opportunity to attack or a tell of ability that knocked him away and resulted in his injuries. He maintained his distance at the edge of the Shinigami's range of vision. [-257] [Remaining HP: 611] ------ [Ryūnosuke] Frenzied Wailer Byakko crossed her forearms in front of her as she was knocked backwards by the forceful shock waves produced by the Tengu's swings. The intensity of both swings slammed into her with enough force to paralyze her lungs. Luckily, as a Frenzied Wailer, Chizuru's body no longer relied on her organs at all. Everything her physical body was capable of required nothing more than the Baleful Mist. She didn't even feel physical pain anymore and neither did the corrupted spirit in control of her body or the bodied of the other Wailers. Chizuru had raised her arms to block Ryūnosuke's attack purely out of instinct, but the truth was that it didn't matter how much her body was damaged or if it was completely destroyed. It was simply a tool, a vehicle. Naturally it would grow old, frail, and then ultimately die and rot away. Until that point her body would serve its purpose --the protection of Lady Tomoe-- at any cost. The Frenzied Wailer growled as Ryūnosuke's arm slammed into her chest and she was tripped to the ground. Byakko's body would again react on instinct, recalling Chizuru's own combat training and expertise. She seized Ryūnosuke's arm --one hand on his wrist and the other on his underarm-- as she fell and landed on her back. At the same time she slid her right leg between Ryūnosuke's legs and hooked it around his left ankle. The moment her back contacted the ground, Chizuru rolled over to her right side, performed an arm drag into an inside leg trip at would end with Ryūnosuke pulled down to the ground flat on his back, with Chizuru mounted over him. Her right hand still pinned his left wrist down, as she wound back her left fist before launching a punch down at the Tengu's face. [-441 HP] [Remaining HP: 735] ------ [Connor] The Policeman was spared little time to mount his own attack or regain full stability. It was clear that the enemy outmatched him in speed and this disadvantage was further exacerbated by the fact that the Frenzied Wailer's body still suffered the after-effects of the electrically charged attack from before. Nevertheless, the Policeman found some level of reprieve in the fact that he'd caught the Justice Coin just as the Fullbringer's spear hit his shoulder and his ability activated instantly. A wave of pressure 3x3 feet in diameter erupted from beneath the Policeman and shot him skywards. Though the second attack was not avoided, the wound that came of it was a vertical slash, rather than a detrimental stab through his joint. It was a manageable alternative as the Policeman at that moment required the use of both his arms. As he blurred upwards completely out of the the Fullbringer's range of vision and just as the spear-wielder fully committed to his attack by stepping forwards, the policeman flipped his coin a second time, as he hovered his right palm just two inches above his left hand. The coin completed all of two rotations before touching --heads face up-- on the surface of the Policeman's right palm before he'd even reached halfway through his 10 feet ascent into the air. And before the enemy would likely have any time to look up another 3x3 wave of force would crash down over the human's body with him at the center. Considering the low number of rotations, the policeman knew his attack would not be fully powered, but it would likely give him the time he needed to formulate a plan. As he looked down at the enemy, the Frenzied Wailer flipped the Justice Coin again from his right hand back down into his left palm. His next attack --heads face up-- primed.
